Keep his stats down by starting Jaylen, who is locked into a rookie contract for the next few years. Plus Smart can handle PG duties for the 2nd unit. Danny told Jaylen to be ready to guard Pg's this year, I think the plan is for him to start next to Irving and take the tougher defensive matchup.

Kyrie.        Smart
Jaylen.     Rozier
Hayward.   Tatum
Morris.       Yabu/ semi/Theis
Horford.     Baynes

Hopefully add TA and Bogut(if healthy)

I can see starting Brown, to let Smart lead the second unit. But not to sabotage his re-signing, that's how you destroy a team from within.

The title to this is really stupid. Let's not play him much so we can keep his stats down so we can re-sign him after a bad year? Yeah that is brilliant!!

This is the kind of thread that would show up in a typical August when nothing usually happens. There's no such excuse this August.

Smart's probably our BEST defender right now - as well as being a Swiss Army Knife in many other areas.

Whether he starts or comes off the bench he NEEDS to see good minutes to help this team.

He's going to be a HUGE part of our toughness and grit going forward. He will have to integrate Marcus Morris and Baynes into the Dog House because we don't have AB and Crowder anymore.

Any team worth its salt need Junkyard Dogs. JYD's are smart, tough, mean, territorial and protects your valuables. Smart's going to be the lead hound in that category now.

I think we should bring Smart off the bench more so due to his ability to run the point and lead off the bench. He is our longest tenured Celtic, after all ;D

And I think Brown would fit better next to Kyrie and Hayward, as he doesn't really need the ball at this stage of his development that often but can shoot the 3 at a decent %
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)

SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

We should bench Irving the next two seasons so that he resigns for cheap, BRILLIANT!

Brad will start Jaylen over Smart, but not for that stupid reason. Smart will provide playmaking stability with the second unit and Jaylen will excel playing AB's role last year.

I agree with this 100%.  We don't need a conspiracy theory to have Smart run the 2nd unit.  He did it really well last year.  I like having a couple vets out there with the young guys on the 2nd unit.  Smart will get loads of PT this year.

TP. This is exactly it. I've been saying for months Brown will be the starter at SG. No one is as good on defense as Smart but Brown is going to be dangerous this year. He can take the outside shot and, unlike Bradley, drive to the inside.

Smart takes the 2nd team and adds defense when needed.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

KO still got a big pay day, how many games did he start. NBA overpays  even bench players

Knowing Brad Stevens he'd still find a way to squeeze 22 and 5 out of him off the bench
