I was thinking about this last night and I am torn on where I stand on this. I was hoping CB could give me some thoughts...

Here's the scenario:

Given the team's CURRENT construction, what would you be more likely to do? Also, let's assume the price for these trades are favorable to the Celtics, and neither option requires a total blow up of the roster.

An all star SG is available like: Klay, CJ McCollumn, or Brad Beal

A talented big man, who is not an all star, is available like: Derrick Favors, Nerlens Noel, Hassan Whiteside.

What do you do? Obviously this team could use a young big, but I kind of like Morey's motto in Houston, give me the stars and I'll make it work. I think I am leaning towards a star SG and trying to find serviceable bigs on the cheap.

The star SG, 100%.  You can get buy with just one star big in today's NBA, and you can never have enough star wings.  Plus, if you get a star SG like Klay or Beal you could look to trade some of our wings for a star big if one became available
I'm bitter.

I lean heavily towards the SG with Klay being head and shoulders above every other name on that list.  Klay is one of the greatest shooters ever and a top notch defender with plenty of size.  Klay would truly be a game changer on any contending team because his greatest strengths have a legitimate impact on winning playoff games.

If you remove Klay from the conversation then I think Whiteside can be argued against Beal or McCollum.  The only question with Whiteside is his motor and desire.  McCollum is an easy pick if we are talking about offensive volume and efficiency but the Blazers literally play zero defense.  As for Beal, my major knock on him is lack of consistency in the playoffs.  It seems like he either plays great or disappears.

In the era of positionless basketball, elite talent trumps fit.

A starting lineup of:
IT
Klay
Hayward

Would be unreal. I take that.
