And now player development position?  Celtics are a classy organization.  Would love to have Paul teaching the youngsters some tricks (and fire)
Seems like yesterday we drafted him  :'(

I'd love Pierce to mentor Tatum
Tatum's offensive game is very much like PP

And all is right in the world. Classy move by the organization and a terrific way to end his career. Pierce is a Celtic for life! I hope the Truth can stick around for a while

Great news after a long day at work.  Love to The Truth - the main reason I became and still am a Celtics fan.

Last contract as a player. Hopefully he'll be back at some point in another capacity.

We all knew this was coming but it's really nice to see it. One of the all-time greats, probably the greatest of the post-Bird era. Enjoy your retirement, captain.

Great move, look forward to the PP night.

Just curious, does he take up a roster spot for the likely one game he suits up?

I was at Paul's very First Game as a Celtic....not at the Garden...But, in Long Beach Ca. the early days of NBA Summer League. Rick Pitino was sitting behind me.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

So, is this a 1-day deal? I actually wouldn't mind him on the roster for this year...

Yeah, you would. There's no space. I'm sorry but PP can't contribute any more and the guys on the roster now - all of them - are better than PP. That's not a knock on Paul. Father Time beats everyone. It's nice to see The Truth back on the roster to retire in green. The guy earned it and is a beloved figure in Celtics history.

This is especially cool - "Long-time Celtics equipment manager John Connor, who often engaged in epic post-practice shooting contests with Pierce, kept unworn pairs of Pierce's signature Nikes on hand at both the team's practice facility and at TD Garden. One set finally got put to use Monday as Pierce took up the team's offer to get up one last batch of shots on the practice court. ".

Nice touch. Now, hire him as an assistant and let him mentor Tatum.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Yeah, Paul has retired.  He doesn't want to play any more.  Even without PT, the grind of another season is just too much for him.

By far my favorite Celtic.  I was young through the Bird, DJ, KM, Parish era.  The Truth was the era I really became the insane fan I am today.  I watch more hoops then any other spot and I love all sports.  This is something we knew was going to happen but I'm happy it finally did.  I hope he gets a shot to work with the team.  It would be great to have the Truth back in Boston for good.

The official Celtics website has a writeup and some awesome pics from Pierce's signing today, and some from when he later shot around at the practice facility in Waltham, including these:

Also, ESPN has a nice little writeup with some quotes.

Awesome to see Pierce in Green again!!! Hopefully he sticks around.

If he had shot poorly, would Ainge have refused to sign him? ;)

Dear Free Agents Around The League:

When you are deciding where you are going to play in the future, take note of what just happened. Not only will you be a hero in Boston if you play your heart out but management will take care of you, even after you've left the team.

LOL. Hadn't heard that. TP.
