Oh you ;D. How could Ainge possibly waive the most lucrative contract for a second round pick in history, iirc, after only one year, lol? ::) *facepalm*

Two years. Even mocking has to be accurate.

Does anyone know why Mickey was signed to such a gigantic contract! Did he slip in the draft or something? I had no idea he had one of the biggest 2nd round contracts
rumor was DA promised to take him with a first round pick. RJ ended up falling and I guess DA couldn't pass him up. DA drafted Mickey a few picks later and gave him a contract of similar value to that of a first rounder in order to make up for passing on him initially.
I hadn't heard that but if it is true that is pretty stand up on Danny's part

It was hardly "gigantic". One of the main reasons that it was the largest for a second rounder at the time was the fact that it was 4 years instead of 3, but only the first two years were guaranteed. So we used a bit more of our cap space (which we weren't gonna use anyway) to have a possible 4th year of control instead of just 3. If Mickey had turned out to be an NBA caliber player, that would have been a steal. As it was, we only had to pay him the guaranteed two years, which was well under half of the "largest contract ever" for a second rounder
I'm bitter.

I was responding to a post by tarheels wherein the latter asked why it took so long to waive the guy in the first place, which, I'd argue, should have been done after his rookie season, hence the "one year" part ;), if that's okay with you.

As for the stuff about Ainge selecting Hunter instead of Mickey at the end of the first round that year, I've recently read, although I cannot remember where as of right now (sorry about that), that Danny was actually hoping to take Larry Nance Jr and not "the hard times of" RJ Hunter at 28, so I'm not sure how much of it was simply passing on a guy whom they had targeted pre-draft and did not expect to still be available at that point and how much it was simply a case of overvaluing a player in terms of his contract or something, but you get the gist of it, right?

Poor Triboy. He spent endless hours on Mickey. From hyping him up, to blaming Stevens and his "hidden agenda" for not playing him. The road to recovery is long, but hopefully Triboy bounces back quickly and can continue do what he does best (i.e. overrating fringe prospects).

There's little sense to waive a guy after the first year, esp if you dont need the cap space yet anyway. The Pros outweighs the Cons.

Truth be told, Mickey looked quite promising early on. Somehow, however, instead of improving his ability to block shots vanished in thin air.

If he is smart, he will head to Europe.

At least he can still follow Indy and Sabonis.

I was in Portland a couple years ago for work. I got to see Mickey, R.J., and James Young play
for the Red Claws. At the time Mickey was by far the best player on the court, but the D or now
G-League is a lot like the Summer League. Where it's mainly players showing off their offensive
skills and defense is for most an after thought. Mickey was able to show off his natural shot
blocking ability and still score a lot. For some reason he just couldn't get minutes in Brad's
system? In the end I believe Mickey just couldn't play good enough defense and make outside
shots, to earn time. He had plenty of opportunities, and should have thrived when Stevens went
small. For whatever reason he just couldn't make the leap from D-League all-star to Celtics keeper.

He's a great athlete, I hope he can find his place somewhere else. Best of luck to Jordan

I thought we had to get rid of Mickey and Jackson to sign Hayward, is that correct? Does that mean Jackson is going to be traded soon?

After the Bradley trade we just needed to get rid of one or the other.  Jackson can stay for now, it remains to be seen if the team will eat his $650k guarantee and let him go or keep him for the year

I'd say China.  Yabusele got paid $2 million to play there last year, and I think Mickey could get almost as much.  His lack of height would be less of an issue, too
