Liked this pic lol

Really impressed with those soft hands. Big meat hooks. My only fault maybe that he goes after EVERYTHING. He's going to tire out and probably only give you at best 20-25 a night. Big guys gas easy so we will have to see how conditioning goes.

Zizic has been looking better and better with every summer league game.  Once he gets fully acclimated to the pace of the north American game I think we will find him a useful player.

Might take a few years to get there as he's still very young and a big to boot.  But if he becomes say the equivalent talent of an Avery Bradley, whom we also drafted in the 20's, Zizic could become a very useful player for us at the 5.

Zizic will be much better than perk. He already is better on offense.

Perk was never as quick or fast as zizic on defense either. Go look at perks first few years of stats. He was a nobody firmly bolted to the end of the bench on a so so team.

Žižić is by far more advanced with his footwork and shooting touch in general than Perk was, it is not comparable. Even though Ante is 20 and we are comparing him to prime Perk. He is no Hakeem, it is just that Perk wasn't talented in that regard at all. I remember so many travels committed in the first few mins of our games when they were trying to post him up. Defensively, the League is more demanding to true 5's than it was 10 years ago. Now, these guys have to switch regularly far out and it is not an easy task for those frames and pounds. Perk was a very solid, strong post defender, moved his feet well for the mass he had, Ante will have to go a level deeper if he wants to be a starter.

Come on, Celticsblog has all the answers. Usually after 5 minutes of action, though... :D

Speaking for myself, I am holding Ante Zizic to a higher standard than Kendrick Perkins. Why?  Because like many of us, I think he could be better, perhaps MUCH better.  I was rather critical of Ante in the game thread last night, and I got jumped on.  That's fine, this is CB.  I did this because if he can clean up a few things I expect him to not only provide EXACTLY what the team was missing last year, but also get in the graces of Brad Stevens to give him playing time.

So, I still view Zizic as a "project" and likely 3rd string center, at least to start the season.

The main point about this guy is that he works his tail off, cares about basketball, and his skill set still applies in the NBA.

The league is moving towards pace and space, with everyone able to do everything (Durant just played center in the finals for a few minutes at a time, for instance). But you still have use for big bruiser types, especially ones with a little bit of skill. See for instance Stephen Adams, or Andrew Bogut from that original Warriors championship team two years ago.

I mean, we just signed Aron Baynes as the probable starter in the front-court next to Horford. He almost definitely won't close out games, just provide 15-20 minutes of solid defense, setting screens, rugged rebounding etc.

That may be Zizic's ceiling: Aron Baynes. But you know what? That's pretty good for a guy drafted #23 who will make $1.6m this year.

Who'd have thought that adjusting to a completely different way of playing basketball would take a bit of time.

Didn't stop the boo-birds on here from calling him a bust after two summer league games.

Who was calling him a bust? It would've been silly to do that after a couple of games, considering he's been playing for 10 months straight and only arrived in the country a few days before the start of the summer league.

Midway through the season we'll have a better indication of the type of contribution he can make IMO. Can't be worse than Zeller and a bit more upside.
nobody called him a bust. i simply said he sucked that first game. he definitely turned it around.
Plenty of folks were calling him a bust or a stiff. It gets way too reactionary around here.

Why would you hold Zizic to a higher standard than Perkins? Is this 20/20 hindsight speaking?

Zizic is a EU guy selected 23rd. Perk was the #6 High School prospect who was selected 27th. Perk played 13 seasons, started 565 games and started on a team that won an NBA Championship. If Zizic does that then I'd say his career was wildly successful for a late round 1st.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.
