There were only 11 assists for the whole game from Boston.

It took Pierce half his career to learn how to pass out of a double team and create for others. I think we can wait at least through training camp for our 19 year old rookie.

Good point...I went back and checked and the numbers between Pierce and Tatum are almost the same at age 19. I wouldn't worry about Tatum being able to pass at this point.

Pierce - 16.3/6.8/2.1
Tatum - 16.8/7.3/2.1

I'm much , much more worried about Zizic's zero rebounds in 10 minutes of action last night. Zero rebounds for a guy who's main skill is rebounding.
I was worried too, but not any more.  We've got Aron Baynes!

Seriously though, Zizic is a huge project.  Many areas in need of development.

I can't fault Tatum for recognizing that he's one of the only legitimate offensive threats on the team and taking the game into his own hands. Why pass when you can score?
"why pass when you can score"

The problem is he disn't pass much at duke.

...and he was considered one of the best scorers in the entire NCAA. What's the problem you're speaking of?

i posted the stats in another thread, but perk took 3-4 years to really be a credible center. zizic stats look better. patience with zizic will pay off and he will have a better career....or at least i believe he will.  ;D

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Tatum's turnaround fadeaway is special.  I hope he makes the ESPN Body Issue before he ever records an NBA assist.

I really hate generalizing message board communities, but man this board is so negative sometimes

A celticsblog impersonation

So Jayson Tatum scored 35 points and grabbed 10 rebounds last night

Celticsblog Poster: Yeah but those two missed free throws he had are a great cause of concern

Again, no playmaking point guard on our SL team.  Tatum, Brown, and Nader pretty much have to ISO every possesion.  It makes for an out of sync, ugly looking team, but it's what they're stuck with!
Very poorly constructed SL team, IMO.  Way too wing dominant.  No playmakers, no bigs except for Zizic.

To be fair, tatum was a ball stopper in college too.  So yeah, this is part of who he is.  If he can be an effective scorer, some of this will be forgiven.

Any cause for concern? He averaged like 2 in college. Is he too predictable in that he doesn't pass?

Not meaning to sound rude, but are you just digging for any excuse to be negative right now?

You have a guy who is thus far dominating the Summer League to the tune of averaging 21 points (on 47% / 30% / 90% shooting), 10 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.75 steals and only 1.0 turnover across his first four summer games...and you're asking if we should be concerned because he had one game without any assists?

Do you know Anthony Davis didn't record any blocks on his last regular season game?  Should we be concerned that AD just forgot how to play defense?

I mean seriously, how many 19 year olds do you know of who came in to the NBA at 6'8" as a SF/PF, and put on a summer league assist frenzy?   Even Fultz is only average 3 APG so far, and he's a PG who is raved about for elite his P&R game!

Lets calm the farm a little shall we?

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I've watched all his summer league games and it's certainly a problem that Brad will be addressing. Way too much dribbling especially in the high and low post where he should be using his height and vision to find open shooters. He's simply not even thinking about passing sometimes. There's nothing wrong with being a score first guy but there's a concern for me about his thought process and not staying aware of surrounding shooters at all times.

Wouldn't worry too much, it kinda sucks that he isn't a less selfish player but he's trying to prove himself I guess.

They are going to drill him on passing and finding the open shooter from day 1 of training camp anyway.

He simply isn't passing enough and he needs to start passing more or his team mates are going to start getting annoyed with him. Guys like Crowder, Smart and IT will sort him out pretty quickly- as will Brad and the coaches.

Dude is a sick player though. Looks extremely promising as a scorer.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
