When your at the bottom there's no where else to go, but up.
Yup. They really could only get marginally better.
I actually like a little of what they are doing, but I don't think it's going to help them much next year. Mostly, repeating the #1 pick would just be unlikely due to odds of ping pong balls. But I'm hoping for a top 4 pick again.
Losing Lopez is huge for them; he was actually healthy last year and by far their best player.
Getting Russell is a nice move for the future, so I think it was worth it from their perspective in the long term, but might be a net negative this coming year.
Same for acquiring picks; it's what they have to do to improve long term, but won't help them this year.
Getting KCP would be pretty neutral in my opinion. He's a career .405/.334/.785 shooter. Max PER of 12.8. He is 24 so he's got room to grow, but I don't think he'll ever be as valuable as, say, Avery Bradley. KCP could be a nice 5th guy on a good team, but that is not the role the Nets need in order to improve significantly.
