Trading Bradley is one of Danny's best moves ever

And its not because I don't like Bradley.

He needed to make this move with Bradley likely command 25 mil a year.

-He now has a starting PF with Marcus Morris locked up until 2019.
- still have Jae locked up for 3 more years
- send Bradley instead of Smart, because Smart is still a restricted free agent, meaning we have more control of his situation.

If we can re-sign smart(if he plays up to it) at around 12 mil a year, we will have all 3 of Smart, Morris and Jae locked up for the around same price it would have taken just to re-sign Bradley.

Also allows us to bring over Yabu

This whole cap situation sucks....  I wish NBA players all got paid the same...Every year they get a raise based on years in the league and games played.    Or just games played.   And they could make more money based on wins and efficiency based on stats.   

Say a guys scores 20 points on 40% shooting.  But another guy scores 15 points on 50% shooting.  They would get their base plus about the same.   

That way we can keep players like bradley instead of lose them.   In this case I know we had to trade him because of the cap and our needs...but I wish NBA players and spots players got paid a little differently.

He also moved Bradley coming off Bradley's best season so far, while people likely overlooked his injury history and offensive limitations.

I love Bradley, but as great a defender as he is , he got toasted regularly by Kyrie in the playoffs, and Wall too for several games. He also is a poor ball handler and passer.

Also, he has rarely completed a playoff run without a significant injury.

He is going to get paid huge money, but I would never give a player with those limitations and injury history the type of contract he is going to get.

Morris' contract and skill set is of similar quality to Crowder's. Getting another contract and player of that type of bargain is huge right now when trying to build a legit contender. This is easy yo overlook, but its the best part of the trade by far. Having two quality players on bargain deals is huge for building this roster.

I understand we had to trade him, but the return is a little underwhelming IMO.  We put ourselves in a bind with the George talks falling through, and the league knew we were under pressure to cut salary.

Agree with hpantazo.  Just want to add that if Celtics want a championship, they need to move on from really good players to "best" players.  When he has it going, no one can guard IT, but Bradley has good offensive games only occasionally.  If you want a championship, you can't tie up a lot of money in Bradley.  Each starter is a chance for an all star:  Bradley is probably near his peak now and isn't an allstar.

Those who know Morris' game better than me -  what about a comparison to a "rich man's" Brandon Bass?  High energy, a little taller, has 3-point range (unlike BB), more an offensive than defensive weapon, not great on the boards.   Morris seems like he'll be a viable offensive option amongst a team that suddenly looks strong offensively.   Maybe Morris will attack the glass a little more here than in Detroit.

The thing is if Avery could play point guard (better passing skills and ball handling)  We could have kept him.  He and IT are small and we needed to get bigger.   And we can't afford two 6 and under 20 million dollar players now could we?

I wouldn't go best moves ever. I liked Bradley and I'm not going to trash him on the way out. Good player, but, as others have said, you can only have so many "good" players not on rookie deals and still pay your "great" players. So someone, or some-multiples, were always going to walk or get traded.

I don't think it is a best move ever, but it is a very reasonable lateral position shifting move.

I really liked Avery as a player, and he seems to be a quality person and teammate. Really fun watching him develop. I wish him well, and I'm sad to see him go.

That said, I like the trade for the financial reasons a lot of others have mentioned. Another thought - this team has really benefited by finding low cost players and getting more out of them than others did. Given what the Cs have done with Steez, Evan Turner, Gerald, Jae, and IT, I have some hope for Marcus Morris being able to contribute as a rotation player.

But I really hope our rotation of bigs is going to improve before the playoffs. The one reservation I have about this trade is that it rules out the trade I really was hoping for. Something like Jae and AB for a big who was worth a 12-13 million salary. Someone like JaMychal Green. But I have no idea if that trade was out there, so it's hard to hold it against DA.
