I think if IT recovers from the injury fully, if he averages 25 points a game or more, and if he pulls out some good playoff performances helping us to get another shot at the cavs he will get close to the max hopefully less than 4 years.  It is a lot of ifs and DA is obviously willing to let this season play out to see where it goes.

If I was the GM, I would be very hesitant giving the full max to a 1 way player, but obviously most here feel otherwise.

It would be a serious mistake to give him a 5 year max. A 4 year max is less crazy, but I'd much rather try to give him a 3 year max deal.

I have a feeling the franchise would still give him 5 years and worry about the rest down the road.  The opportunity cost of playing hardball is losing him for nothing.  I can't imagine that would sit well with Hayward and Horford.  It also wouldn't send a great message to future free agents.  We don't have the luxury of being in a market that sells itself.

Let's look at the current roster and where they will stand throughout IT's 5 year deal.  Horford will no longer be making max money by the time IT finishes year 2 of the deal.  Hayward will finish his new contract by year 3 of IT's new deal.  Jaylen will be due to get paid in the summer of 2020.  Tatum will be due the follow season.  We also don't know how much higher the cap will by the time IT reaches year 4 or 5.  We have so many young assets so I'm not concerned about IT getting the full 5 years.  If we didn't have Jaylen, Tatum, Brooklyn 18, and LA 2018/Phi 2018/Sac 2019 then I would be more concerned.

3 years/ $75 million would make a very fair deal.  Guys who can fill up the bucket get paid and while IT and Harden for example aren't defenders, IT can be stopped unlike HArden who can create for himself or others.  No more than 25 for 3 years is where we should land.

Do you really think the Celtics will fight hard for $25 million per year without a scenario that lands us a top-tier franchise player?  The only way IT will entertain taking less is if we could acquire a player like Anthony Davis via trade.  I could see him working with ownership regarding luxury tax concerns if it gives us an opportunity to win multiple titles.

4 yrs, $140m for IT. Given the contracts out there, it's hard to say that he's not worth this a year from now.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

He's going to get paid a ton of money. The full, 5/170+ MAX? Probably not, but he's going to be compensated quite fairly.

I'm hoping for 4 years, $120 million.  I'm fine with a 4 year max. That 5th year scares me a bit though, and would for just about anyone.

That's where I'm at on this as well. I think I'd give him anything he wants over 4, but a 5th year isn't happening without a significant discount on the average value.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

And if that's our offer, Isaiah will be taking his talents elsewhere.

No, it's not. Thanks for playing, please try again.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

He's getting the 4 year max, whether you like it or not, and I LIKE it.

Now if it's 5 years, I think that's kind of pushing it and I feel that is way too risky.

But seeing the contracts people out there are signing, how can you say IT isn't worth the max (4 years)? Guy just came off a 29/6 season, had a great postseason with some big games, and has made the All-Star team the last 2 seasons.

It might want to sign a shorter contract so he can get that over 30 max in a couple of years. Maybe a 3 year contract with player option on the 3rd year...

Why would this reek trouble? He'll get it, or at least close to it, from us.

I believe this is the same reason Hayward "gave up" $48M to sign a shorter contract in Boston rather than staying in Utah.

A guy who thinks he deserves max, does not tell the world he should be paid it

Just play and we will see what happens. If you think you deserve max and Celts wont pay it, someone else will....maybe

Agreed.   It's getting old.
