  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Since he was so obtainable and the hype was clearly there, I am going to go with yes. When people bring up guys  like Draymond or Giannis, I always think that they are being unfair to Ainge, but since Danny loves highly rated prospects out of high school and we were in need of big men, I thought it to be surprising we didn't take Skal.

I am still hoping we can trade AB or Smart for him for salary relief to sign Hayward. He may never end up a world-beater, but he is a very interesting prospect.

Yabusele and Zizic were reaches at a time when immediate contributors were still on the board.

I think the jury is still out but Ainge was never afraid to go against the grain.   One good thing about Zizic is he has a 7-3 wingspan.  I think most people liked where Zizic was picked.  Yabu was the one who peeps thought was a big reach.

Can't believe we took Zizic over the #1 rated prospect. I remember hearing about Skal Labissiere a year before he went to Kentucky.

He slides to #23 and we pass on him for this Euro Bum Zizic. Skal is the new NBA big man, shoots the three blocks shots, long athletic.

Calipari is a great recruiter not a genius Coach IMO. Coach Steven's would have worked wonders with a kid with this type of size and talent.
Calling him this #1 prospect is pretty disingenuous.

He wasn't the #1 prospect by the time the draft rolled around and that's why he fell to the 20s or 30s or whenever he got picked.

Zizic was a highly rated big man who was willing to be stashed. It was a no-brainer pick.

The Yabu pick came a bit out of left field.

He was the #1rated prospect just like Harry Giles was. If your ranked #1 anytime the seventeen to eighteen time frame. That means you have star upside.

And Sac has both of them.

High Risk/High Reward makes a lot of sense if you're picking in the 20's.

What's so striking to me is how the media attitude toward the Kings' management took a 180 flip - commentators were positively gushing the day after the draft this year.

Keeping all those picks in that draft was the mistake.

Danny drafted a bunch of stashed leaving talent on the board.

A #hottakealert that Skip Bayless would be proud off.

Zizic hasn't yet played a single NBA minute. He just turned 20. We all assumed last year he was a project that had potential to be a solid rotation player one day. What has changed exactly? 3 summer league games where he's playing with a bunch of scrubs? Players take time to develop.

Zizic just played a full professional season in Turkey/Europe. He's basically had no time off and is now playing SL. Time will tell. I'd be ecstatic if this guy can be a Gortat type player for the C's. Just need to wait and develop and see how things go.

This poll needs a "stop being ridiculous, it has been two days of summer league" option.

The proclivity for ridiculous early hot takes on this forum is quite funny.

I agree, but that extends well beyond this forum, unfortunately.

Agreed. The mistake with Zizic, and dozens of players over the years, is to rush to judgment based on a You Tube video, statistics or a brief view of the player without considering the context. Summer league, for example, is virtually meaningless for player evaluation. It's always humorous to see people predicting 20 minutes a night for a player they want to like, but haven't evaluated in any kind of meaningful context.

I'm on record of saying I'd gone Brown, Lab, Zizic, Zubac. And trade away all the other seconds. Still feel that way. Lab slipped super low.

Skal scored 2 pts today (1/6), now +40% of poll voters can write about that and extract some lucid points. I won't beat around the bush, I will root for Ante wherever and however he ends up, Skal or no Skal, but these 12, 17-minute sample sizes are almost irrelevant, especially at this level of competition (SL).

Can Zizic play in an NBA game before we have this conversation? Just one?

Also, the irony about the poll is Labissiere had been selected, he would've spent most of the year in the D-League, playing almost no minutes in the NBA, and everyone here would've been complaining about the pick and dreaming about getting a bruiser big man.

One observation I have about Zizic after watching some YouTube videos; I hope he learns to stop hanging on the rim every time he dunks.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas

C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Won't be the first time his big pick has went wrong.   Im used to it now .

Ill just wait and see .  Mickey seemed to have promise too.  These bigs either fail or get injuried too often to predict

Man, that would have stocked the cupboards.  You'd be a better GM than Ainge.

No way. DA may be an average drafter but he kills it in trades. I'd never have that ability. Plus signing coaches and staff is something I also have no clue about. So much more to doing his job than hitting in the draft. He just needs better scouts.
