So if we clear Jae's salary to sign Hayward, that leaves about 3 mil in cap room.

Marcus makes 3.4 , so that leaves us about 6.5 -7 mil(depending how much Salary Jae would clear).

If we send AB 8.8 mil + 3 mil in cap room, we could be taking back around 12 mil in salary.

The reason I think this is important is because I don't see the C's signing all 3 of AB, IT and Smart.

So a smart thing you can do now is trade one of AB or Smart for a salary that is locked in for 2 or 3 years at less money than it would take to re-sign AB or Smart next year.

Does this make sense to anyone else?

Why are some in a rush to trade Smart and AB now. We can wait and get some minimum guys or let's see what Theis and Yabu can do.

Their contracts aren't up and if they're playing for a contract, let that benefit us right now.

That's the thing that some people fail to recognize.

When you have a player entering the last year of his contract, he has all the motivation in the world to have a career season...to push his game to heights unseen.  That kind of effort not only leads to victories on the court, but, hopefully, a more lucrative contract next time.

So my feeling is to let them throw it all against the wall to see what sticks.  Perhaps we risk a player's skill degrading, but for these individuals and their ages, I'm not worried about that at all.

I get where you are going with this. So if we trade Jae and Smart that's $12 million and if we get back a player making about $9.5 million that clears the cap space to keep Rozier and be able to sign Hayward. So who fits in that salary slot?

Agree - no reason to trade Bradley or Smart at this point. Jae is most duplicative, but obviously the ideal state is a sign and trade of Rozier and pieces to Jazz so we don't lose any of the core (what's indicated in @dangercart s tweets)

If we have to lose a part of the core it is probably unfortunately Jae Crowder, but given the construction of the team as it is I think that's the place we can most afford to lose a player

This may have already been mentioned, but on NBA Radio this morning, the guy with Legler said that GMs had told him Ainge's asking price was a 1st for Bradley, a 1st for Crowder, and the price for Smart was negotiable.

They didn't think we'd be able to get much for Crowder.

I've been thinking along the same line. Hopefully get us back a very serviceable big but one of the problems with moving AB and Smart is you would need another guard too.

One of the teams interested in Smart is the Knicks, according to the New York Daily News. The Knicks have about $15 million in cap space and Smart makes just $4.5 million this season and then becomes a restricted free agent in 2018.

Just saw this.

If the Knicks want Smart, we have to figure out a way to get O'Quinn. Maybe Rozier and Smart but Ainge has to start addressing our frontline rebounding.

O'Quinn is a bum. We have to figure out a way to get Hernangomez, although I suspect this might be a really short conversation  ;D.

Hernangomez made the all-rookie team...they aren't giving him up. We don't need scoring we need interior defense and rebounding. O'Quinn can do that on the cheap.

They want Marcus Smart, right? Last time I checked, we weren't giving him away for charity. Otherwise, we could just S+T with Utah, give them Crowder, and get Diaw back or something.

I'm not a fan of teaming Smart up with Porzingus within our conference.   We already built one potential problem in Philly...

I would rather trade them Bradley, perhaps for Courtney Lee and a future pick?

Lee is signed for $11.8m for three years, and would be a good vet to have sharing time with Jaylen at 2 guard.  Then the Knicks can use AB as a win now move to appease Melo and have contact flexibility with him this offseason.

I'm not too worried about our bigs situation.
Honestly expect Tatum to be firmly in that rotation from day one.
