I understand the kobe comparisons

Seeing him actually reminds me of Kobe  in his debut in summer league. Advanced footwork for his age and a quality skillset out the gate. And that fade away shot with the kick  lol

I hope he fills out nicely. It looks like long term he'd be a great as a small ball PF.

Markelle Fultz Full Highlights 2017.07.05 vs Jazz - 23 Pts, 5 Rebs, 5 Ast, 13 Pts in 4th!

Too much talent to be a bust
But also too many red flags to be a surely No.1 pick (when you can have tatum+ say Ayton)
The defense, the knee, explosion, shooting touch, free throws, can't lead his team to win games
Think he is projecting to be a better BBeal
Overall impact limitations in a 6"4 body vs 6"9 is the key
He can very well be an MVP in the future but still won't be the best player on a champion team while tatum could, like KD vs Curry

His lengthy floating in the lane finger rolls remind me alot of George Gervin. He is just so silky smooth in every offensive move he makes.

That shot at 1:51 (https://youtu.be/9oXSy7SY2Ac?t=108) is the kind of thing that players make careers out of.

If this kid learns the defense he's going to be impossible to keep off the court this year. We're not talking Brown minutes his first year, we're talking Smart minutes if he's not a defensive liability.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Good comp!  I was thinking James Worthy.

Am i the only one who sees a young Durant with a different looking shot?

TP I was thinking the same thing. Just watch the Youtube highlights of Durant's rookie year.  I'm not saying he will be as good as Durant.  If he becomes that good this would be the best draft pick since Pierce.  Durant had all of those moves when he came in to the league as well.  Most vets in the NBA don't have the moves Tatum has.  Plus his length is just unbelievable and he has amazing stop and go action letting him blow by defenders if they are off balance.  I'm not sure he will be as good a shooter as Durant but he has an all around game like Durant and may be able to get a bit stronger.  Either way the early results are very encouraging.

You know, for some reason whenever I think of James Worthy I never stop and think of offensive world beater. I often forget just how talented he was on offense. Showtime was so entertaining, even if it was the evil lakers  8).

No, you're not. I see the Pierce comparisons, but with his extra length he plays a bit like Durant too. Danny loved Durant, so I wouldn't be surprised if he saw some of the same things that made him like Tatum over the other top guys in the draft.

We all know Tatum is a legit scorer, but can someone explain how he has looked on defense?

I wasn't able to watch the last few games unfortunately.

He looked a lot better than I thought he would for his size (weight).  Kid is strong but really slender.  Seemed to have good awareness on D, used his length to grab some tough def rebounds.  His length will help on close outs, he seems like a pretty high iq player that will get better on D quickly.
I'm really encouraged by his strong showing on the glass. Hopefully this is sustainable.

It's interesting because what we debate here is what Ainge was doing before the draft when he chose Tatum over Fultz.

Let's look at what will help him in his NBA career.

Yes Tatum has owned all the guys whom are trying to cover him in SL. He should be owning them and he is, which is a good sign. He senses opportunity against a weaker competitor and is aggressive.

He is aggressive on offense and his hard moves are accurate. Nadir is also aggressive on offense, but, he lacks the accuracy of Tatum. Tatum will get jammed and blocked from time to time, but, not often enough to affect his game. Like a top NFL running back, Tatum is slippery. Like Barry Sanders.

He has really great hands and, using the ball, he can get his opponent off balance with all manner of change ups. Kind of like Luis Tiant's pitch delivery, you just don't know what's coming.

Again on his hands as above, Tatum can make his opponent miss. It won't be as easy against NBA defenders, but, Tatum has a repertoire that will serve him well. Brown is clearly on the improve, but, compare him with Tatum for a moment. Jaylen has a great explosion, but, there is still a pause in a lot of his moves. Tatum exhibits such fluidity that the set up, the first move and the explosion are just one arc.

The step back and fade is, in fact, Tatum's shot. He works on it and is proud of it.

Will he get a NBA three going? The stats will tell, but, we all know Stevens will have him attempt a ton of them and he has so many other strengths that will help with his 3 pt production prospects seem good.

Finally, Tatum "wants it." He will have his share of rookie moments this year of course, but, he will not be hiding in the corner watching the game. My hope is that his desire and willingness will help him develop on defense. This combined with our team's defensive tradition, league ranking and strength of the head coach should make Tatum into a good defender.

His hands, presence and BBIQ are reflected in his passing ability and for this reason alone he will make this Celtics team better.

He doesn't force his game it just happens.

His defense and rebounding looked good.

Rebounding has always been noted as one of his strengths.  Even Danny Ainge commented on that aspect of Tatum's game.

Defense has not necessarily been a strength but it was never considered a weakness.  He has great size and length and a good athlete.  Will definitely not be surprised if he becomes a legitimately good defender in the NBA.

Increibly polished

Not since Pierce came into the league. Dirk was pretty polished also

You rarely see these type of young players drafted these days.

And he has yet to develop his body.

He does have to become better at the defensive end, but at least doesnt look lost. Is not backing down around the post.  3 pt range/shooting needs work. Again not broken.  Lastly needs to build a habit to catch and shoot/pass the ball without the need to take a dribble or two first all the time

Overall im very impressed by Tatum. Probably the most skilled basketball player Danny has drafted
