If we move Bradley, isn't the Hayward addition... less of an addition?

I'm happy to land a star wing, but Avery Bradley is the absolute best 2 guard on our team and our 3rd or 4th best player respectively. If he is the guy we move, doesn't that really offset adding Hayward? Thomas/Bradley/Hayward is an awesome 1-3 but swap out Bradley with Smart or Jaylen and it's less impressive by far. Shouldn't we keep the best player we have at every position of we want to win?

Would Hayward move to the 2 and we keep Jae?

He'll get more than that. No doubt.

Ideally Brown starts at the 2 and then once he fills out Hayward and Tatum would be your 3 and 4.

Smart and Crowder would anchor your bench.

We didn't draft Brown and Tatum and sign Hayward to sit most of the time. They're going to need a lot of minutes, and they're a much more talented trio than Smart, Bradley, and Crowder. It makes all the sense in the world that one or two of those 3 need to go. It might be an initial step back, but as the season and the next few seasons go by, we'll be a much better team for it.

TP  You need to account for the short term and the long term. Brown and Tatum, while still an investment in potential rather than immediate providers, seem more likely to part of future championship teams than Crowder or Smart. Bradley I think is above Crowder and Smart and could be the glue that holds things together while the young players develop (though Brown could be very good next season). You still want your team to be competitive, the Celtics never tanked. I agree you need AB to get value out of Hayward in the short term.

Basketball-wise, I agree.  Bradley is the most well-rounded player of the 3.  Both Smart and Crowder have serious deficiencies.

Unfortunately, Jayson Tatum can't be your starting 4 this season, otherwise a lineup of

Hayward
Tatum
Horford
would be ideal with Brown, Rozier first off the bench.

What the team needs is a legit starting PF.  Then your bench becomes Rozier, Brown, Tatum.  The younger players get the minutes they need.

Of course, I have no idea how to do that with the cap and other financial considerations.

Just wrote a long post about basically trading for somebody who can rebound up front, since Zizic looks pretty raw in Utah and is only 20. Tatum looks like all world, but he's only 19.

Then you lose your post with "connection problems." Too many lurkers who aren't registered?

If they are going to trade any of those guys C, B, or S, they should add another big up front with experience.

The other point is they are very close to clearing the cap for 7/6--by a couple million, depending on how you calculate it. Rozier could be enough. Nobody really knows except Ainge's capologist.

Agree with you about Zizic, he has that all to familiar look in his eyes that says this is all moving to fast for me. He looks a step behind much of the game.

I'm also going to agree with the OP, the loss of Bradley this year would be significant, and counter productive to the signing of Hayward. Like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Bradley wants a huge pay day , wherher he deserves it is not the issue ,  there is not going to be the money to resign him......best to trade him now ....unless you want to sign AB and trade off IT.

Could be.  Will be interesting to see how many teams end up with that kind of cap space and what their outlook is.  Maybe he would be willing to take a hair cut to avoid being stuck on a lottery team for the rest of his prime.
