I was not a hayward fan(until from now on), but i know he gave his all of 7 years to the Jazz and lead them back to playoffs, fight while their center went down and defeated the Clippers, and instead being thankful the Jazz FO did him bad by not retain his good friend Hill and further more trade for Rubio to replace him, i believe it's the last straw for hayward's decision

For a pending free agent he did possibly the best to stay lowkey to not derial the team, while giving apparent signs that he may leave(taking a photo with the clover), even wrote a heart-touching, thousands of words letter to thank for them

And the salty lake fans now calling him a coward, snake, even some wish him to get injured, some even threat his wife...(my god)
even his former teammates calling him unloyal, while he is showing die-hard loyalty to his former college coach

I know they are upset their star player leave, as they are rightfully so, and it's emotional, but you still need at least some basic class, most complained he made his decision to late, but for me it's obvious from the beginning, The city, the team, the fans, the GM/Owner, the situation(East vs West), and needless to say the Coach, almost everything our team is on top and the decision should be brighter than the fire,(never understand why some people think he will stay)

Now on the independence day Hayward finally free himself from those salty lake city fans, his under-class former teammate and poor run organization to reunion with his worth-trust Coach, with the best fans in the world, wish you the best and enjoy your time here Gordon, even if you decides to leave after 3 years.

Now it's time to watch some Hayward highlights! ;D

I'm sure those are very isolated sentiments and don't reflect the vast majority of the (great) Utah fans.

I don't think Hayward would have gone anywhere else. Boston was absolutely the perfect situation for him.

(1) Need a SF/PF
(2) Move to the weaker Eastern Conference makes the playoffs and All-Star teams far more achievable
(3) A true "win now" team that doesn't require more rebuilding (aka Miami)
(4) Great organization and locker room with a history of winning
(5) Doesn't have to be "the Man" but can step into that role should he desire
(5) And perhaps most importantly a coach he trusts, respects and has a great history with

It was the perfect situation for him to fall in. There's literally no downside for Hayward and so you could easily say the "stars were aligned" for this to happen. If they weren't, I think Hayward would have stayed in Utah because he's a classy, thoughtful and loyal guy.

Personally, I was shocked by the Utah Jazz's first Twitter after Hayward announced his decision (the pic of Gobert). It was pretty classless. But the organization recovered and gave Gordo his due respect and I'm sure the vast, vast majority of Jazz fans also feel the same way.

To be fair, Celtics fans were just as salty when Ray Allen darted to Miami. It is what it is. Fan emotion  comes with the Territory. AHH WELL Hayward is a Celtic now so i'm happy. lol

I am from Indy following Hayward since he was drafted.

I have watched literally EVERY JazzGame (now will be Celtics) on League Pass.

Hayward is class x 100. I am quite shocked at their fanbase reaction as well as beat writers.
Hayward did botch the decision a bit but geesh he's a 27 year old kid, it was not intentional I am sure.

He made a personal choice. He did not do what PG did and yell he wants out before his contract is up. As a matter of fact he did the opposite. His last year of his contract he busted his hump, made the all-star team in the West AND spent the entire summer before working out like 10 hours a day.

He is ultra competitive. He wants to win a ring, not just make the playoffs. This is why I think he came to Boston.

Teammates love him because he always makes the right basketball play (this means he will pass, even on big shots at times). This will make you mad at times. He plays with the same respect of the game Lebron has (and gets called out for deferring)

He knows when to get/take his if needed. The last few years the game has really slowed down for him.

I cannot wait for his Jersey to go on sale (is he #20 ???) and for the season to start....

Think about it this way. How would Celtics fans have felt if Paul Pierce had walked back in 200? when he was a free agency? Several fans would no doubt have shown public displays of anger. I empathize with Utah's despair even as I celebrate our victory

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
What Utah now has to say about Hayward leaving:

Interesting read for sure.
"People look at players, watch them dribble between their legs and they say, 'There's a superstar.'  Well John Havlicek is a superstar, and most of the others are figments of writers' imagination."

Yes, convert as of yesterday :)

My son has been a Pats fan since birth (he is now 20) so I am quite familiar with Boston :)

Hayward is about to make $30 million a year, entering the prime of his career on a talented team with great management that's committed to winning a title.  And he's playing for his favorite coach.  He'll be fine...lol

There was no easy way to leave Utah.  You have to expect some backlash given the impact his decision has on that team.  It would happen anywhere, including here.

agree he's  getting paid 9 figures to bounce a ball for 30 minutes a few times a week. Not sure what's the sorrow for
