I don't see how we could make the salaries work.   At 7.5 rpg and 1.3 bpg he is a good rebounder but not great, a good shotblocker but not elite.  Marc is a nice player but does he put us over the top?  He is also 32, so if you go all in with M. Gasol your window to compete is significantly shorter.

this offseason is doing two things to me:

1. refreshing facebook and celticsblog literally every 5 minutes
2. making my head explode with all the possible outcomes and thoughts about what if...

looking forward to a actual game today

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Gasol was DPOY, and he didn't get it by being a great rebounder or elite shotblocker.

... on a related note, he's now all of a sudden shooting threes at a 39% clip?!

Not really because Horford and Gasol's contracts will both be off the books in 2020

You will still have

Hayward
Tatum
Brown
Brk18
La pick (hopefully)

Thats a lot of talent still .

That was one of my favorite developments last season. What a player, man.

Reading how many guys we would have to give up to match salaries, that is too much, no back court besides IT.  I guess we can use MLE to fill roster.

Trading Horford for him not an option, but if it were, that would make the most sense.

With Gasol, the 2018/19 roster

Gasol
Hayward
Horford
Brown/Tatum------$81M
Add roster holds for some bench guys and Ainge would need to trade potentially two or three 2018 first round picks to dodge that $4M to $9m.

The point is, for the 2018/19 season Crowder, Smart, Bradley, Thomas (if any of them are still here) don't fit on the roster...not even one of them.

It will be interesting to see how Gasol's game ages.

His brother has aged well.

I suspect if he stays healthy he will be very effective for a few more years. his game isn't based on speed. Much like Horford, he relies more on strength and positioning.

Rick Fox seemed pretty reserved on NBA TV during the Hayward chaos yesterday. I got the distinct impression he knew Hayward was going to Boston. I could just sort of feel it. I'm guessing he is plugged in pretty well to some good NBA sources?

After the C's officially landed Gordon, Fox and the host were talking about Boston's moves to free up salary, and Fox hinted a couple times that Boston might make some "aggressive" moves to get a good player.

I wonder if he had already heard rumors about Gasol etc.

We don't have the MLE, though. Just the room exception ($4,328,000), biannual ($3,290,000) and the vet min.

Oh, man, I would be really disappointed if we gave up AB, Crowder, and Smart (plus picks?) for 32 year old, slow as molasses Marc Gasol. I get it, he is supremely skilled, a great protector of the paint, and would fit right into the Cs culture...but, we pretty much lose our culture by trading all three of our hounding defenders for a less athletic (but taller) Horford.

I was in favor of trading for George, trading for Love, even trading for Melo (I know, now not possible), but I would be totally bummed if we made this deal.

I agree with others that would prefer to get Green from Memphis for $12M/yr or so using AB and Crowder with the ability to keep Smart and Rozier, while signing Hayward to a full max.

Hypothetically, could it still be?

Crowder, Morris and Baynes all make together close to 17M.

If he's available at the deadline, would you bite at that + 2019 pick + lesser picks?

And KUDOS to @nebist for the idea on the "Trade Ammo" Thread  ;D
