Did Ainge really not have a trade worked out?

It just seems strange to me that Boston would be scrambling around last minute to come up with a trade to clear salary.  It just strikes me as odd that Ainge doesn't already have that trade lined up.  I mean he has known about this possibility for weeks.  I would think he has been talking to teams for awhile about this exact scenario and should have had something done or almost done.  So all these reports about players being on the block just surprise me.

Perhaps GH will sign for just a hair less so we can keep all our players together.  When you are going to make max what is 300k?  I hope it all plays out in the best interest of everyone.

I would bet he had preliminary talks to some teams before, but has opened up talks wider now with teams that missed out earlier.

He has some time to work it out.

I'm sure he had a few options worked out beforehand, but many more options become available once teams know you need to move someone. He is taking some time to chose the best option.

This is true now he has to go to the teams that got left out and need to fill more holes. Someone like the Clippers could be interested in Smart after losing CP3 ...

Ainge has 2 days to work a deal to get under the cap to sign Hayward. I think there is one out there but Ainge doesn't have any advantages at this point. I prefer Crowder be gone. Smart is a swiss army knife. AB is a bulldog and decent scorer.

He doesn't have to sign Hayward immediately, he can delay the signing until he works out a trade that he likes. Hayward aint going anywhere in the meantime.

He should have known this was going to happen and have contingencies set up at least by now. As soon as Hayward signed, we should heard a "leak" about player X coming to the C's for (Bradley, Crowder/KO/Smart...etc)

These are rumblings that us fans feed on like sharks for blood in the water.   We don't know the details so I'll just let Danny do his job and just like KG and Ray we will have a opening day roster full of studs!

Things are changing so quickly day to day that I don't know how much you can really pre-arrange. Teams aren't going to hold off on their plans while FAs are being signed left and right around them.

I'm sure that he has a general idea of what teams have been interested in Smart, Crowder, or Bradley around the league and vaguely what they'd be willing to give up, but yes as another poster mentioned now that the news is publicly out there some new teams may come out of the woodwork suddenly.
