I complained about Brown before the pick. I listened to all the people say he can't shoot or finish around the basket. I can honestly say I'm glad we picked him now, sure he has stuff to work on what 20 year old kid doesn't? He's got some things that can't be taught, just raw natural talent that really excites me and BTW he can shoot!

Tatum I was high on soon as I read about him and saw some video. Polished for his age with advanced moves, long, smart, etc., anyway really like this kid. Not saying he will be better than Fultz but nobody knows that at this point.

I've been high on Brown since the beginning, but he's got a long way to go before being a good starter. Tatum has great potential, but is a complete unknown against NBA competition.

Marcus Banks was 25 and in what, his 5th pro year in that video?

Not taking issue with your point, but I expected to see someone like this:

Danny is a genius.
And we have an extra first round pick next year or the year after out of the Philly trade.
This is going to be fun.

people wanted the 1st round pick and with it usually comes a pretty [dang] good player. i said this last night......DA knew WTh he he was doing trading back for tatum who he wanted all along and as you stated nabbed another 1st round pick in the process.
LET'S GO CELTICS!

I was listening to some national radio sports show and they were talking about the Lakers and in particular Ingram.  It was all about how there is great promise with him and how guys like Leonard and Butler needed a few years to come into their own in the NBA.

With Brown and Tatum, they are doing everything you would want from young players so far.  That doesn't mean they will keep progressing but there is very little not to like so far.  I am very high on both based on what I have seen so far.

Brown, yes, a little out of control or whatever but love the athleticism and competitiveness; those are the "can't teach" intangibles.  Tatum is just smooth.  Again can't teach.

I get your point.

At the same time, I think it's plausible to get takeaways from a summer league. For instance, it's ok to say that Jaylen looked like the most explosive player on the court. In addition, it's ok to say that Tatum has a refined offensive game for a 19 year old (and others that he was playing with yesterday).

I expect Tatum will have growing pains, but in my eyes, it didn't seem like Fultz was that much better (or even flat out better) than #11 after watching them play on the same court last night.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

If you watched last night's summer league game and had never read a scouting report, seen any stats, or any videos of what they did in college, you certainly wouldn't be crazy for coming away from the game feeling like Jayson Tatum was a better prospect than Markelle Fultz .

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Brown was incredible. I get it - needs to work on his handles - but he was by far the best player on the court last night, not even debatable. He was probably trying things that he isn't allowed to do with the big club, but that is great. Practice makes perfect. One of the announcers mentioned that it was like when Devin Booker played in summer league last year and I was already thinking the same thing. There is a lot to be excited about with Jaylen Brown.

With Tatum, I was happy to see him be able to play well in iso situations as well as off the ball. It took him a little while to get going, but we all have to be ecstatic that he was at his best near the end of the game (and then hit the game winner!).

Personally, I think Tatum was considerably more effective. Fultz started out stronger, but then was not as effective. I mean, gimme a break on the bank shot 3, as well. Tatum did more for his team to win, and that's awesome!

Having watched both play a couple games in college, as well as watching both in highlight videos, my only real takeaway is that Tatum won more games. That doesn't mean he single handedly did so. I just think they were both evenly rated prospects (Tatum was the higher ranked player coming out of high school), and a forward with a shot was a bigger need for us than guard.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I didn't whine about either. I'm also not saying "I told you so" after one SL game.

TP for this. I didn't whine about either and was one of the actual few Brown supporters. Tatum has long been my #2 guy in this draft behind Fultz so I wasn't too torn up about that deal either. But Summer League means absolutely d*ck.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Tatum is just a more mature player than Fultz

One has the competitive spirit, the other just resorts to playing finesse basketball

I wanted Fultz badly, but I had Tatum as my number 2 guy all along. So after getting over the initial shock of trading the first pick, I was pretty happy.

As for Brown, I didn't really have an opinion on him. I wanted a trade that year more than anything, but I was fine fine with the high upside of Brown or Chriss.

I've got to say, the amount that Brown has improved in just one year is astounding. As long as he keeps improving and working at his game, the sky is the limit for this guy with his mix of athleticism, size, and skill.

Huh? Brown is anything but a finesse player. He's kind of a bull in a china shop at times, as evidenced by his several charges last night.
