Hayward met with Miami yesterday, and he's meeting with Boston right now.

He plans to meet with Utah again tomorrow (at San Diego) and that will be his "final meeting" before he plans to make a decision (I'm guessing either late tomorrow, or July 4th).

Frankly, I still think it's Utah.

I know, I know. Miami. Enough said, right. Weather, beaches, Riley (ugh), Spoelstra, and a "pretty good" team I guess. Plus maybe his wife and family would love Miami.

But it seems like Utah reporters are confident he stays, and with Ingles re-signing in Utah, that certainly doesn't help our cause. Even losing Hill, they got back Rubio, who should be decent, although I still think it's a step back.

What do you guys think? Has Miami overtaken Utah as the biggest threats to land/keep Hayward? Or is it still really Boston vs. Utah in this? Or did Boston have zero chance to land him whatsoever...  :(

Also, I take it as a pretty good sign that Hayward didn't stay overnight at Miami, and came to Boston last night where Brad Stevens was nice enough to pick him up. (Did Spoelstra or Riley pick him up inside the airport lol?)

It's always been Utah.  I'd say about 70% chance that he stays.  It's just the easy thing to do.

If that is the case then that would mean winning isn't that important to him because Ray Charles can see that he ain't winning any time soon in the West (not during this contract).

My (guess) odds were: 65% Utah, 25% Boston, 10% Miami. (About 2 weeks ago)

NOW it's: 55% Utah, 25% Boston, 20% Miami.

I'd love to see him come here, but idk, we still have to see if Utah has anymore tricks up their sleeves along with keeping Ingles and trading for Rubio.

95% Celtics, 5% Utah (he would have to really, really love Utah to pass up on Celtics opportunity)

Boston - 50 %

Utah - 45 %

Miami - 5 %

Still think Miami was just an agent favor and/or for his wife. If he wants to win, he comes here.

Man I wish I could be as hopeful and confident as you haha!

I have high hopes we can get Hayward and will stay optimistic to the end, but I also tend to be a bit "realistic" with these kinds of things.

I think the chances are highest for Boston. It's a much better city for a family than Miami or Salt Lake City. I hope they take him around the city. Guess his wife isn't with him, but that would have helped. Boston is a much more expensive place than it used to be, but that won't be a problem for him. His kid will have the best schools, and some of the suburbs are very exclusive. And then you have Nantucket and Cape Cod.

Salt Lake is a lovely city and place to live

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Yeah, but he is not from there originally. I am sure it is 'beautiful', but there are lots of places that are beautiful. It is like the 50th largest metropolitan area in the U.S. - they shouldn't even have a team and really will never have the money to spend into the luxury tax.

Seriously, unless the guy is a devout mormon, there really isn't any reason to stick around. He already tried to leave once and that was for Charlotte.

I am going to go with Boston 85%, Miami 10%, Utah 5%. And the only reason I am not going to go 100% on Boston is because people don't always make the correct decisions in the heat of the moment (see Paul George trade or DA's proposed George trade at the deadline).

Utah. Player movement is (almost) never the most likely scenario.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Gordon Hayward is signing with Boston. Miami is so far away from any chance of ECF or Finals without a starting apG. Utah is the biggest threat cause they already have a solid foundation in place but the Boston Celtics are clearly his best, undisputed choice. Look at the factors...

#1 Brad Stevens, Gordons collage coach and mentor.
#2 Danny Ainge at GM, master at building assets, Gordon sees a great opportunity to become the best scoring option on a team built around Isaiah and Al Horford.
#3 Theory, Celtics are a team steam rolling upwards from a playoff birth to an ECF contender in just a few years who at the same time, gets #1, and #2 picks in the draft. U see a bright future here.
#4 Future assets, Gordon sees that the Celtics own the Nets top pick next year, he also sees that they own the Lakers top pick in the same draft. He also knows that they own more 1st round picks then anyone in the next two years and are very capable of making any trade needed to aquire anything Gordon wants around him. Put it this way, Gordon Hayward knows, signing with the Celtics is his best option not only for the money but because they are set up to win multiple championships with him on the roster. They have the best outlook in the future. He knows Lebron is gonna bounce to the west in a few years which will make the Boston Celtics the top dog in the East for atleast ten years or more.

Goran Dragic? He was a pretty good starting PG for the Heat this season and possibly their best player. And also, what foundation has Utah built that has Hayward excited? Outside of Gorbert, Hayward was the only thing to be excited about on that team this past season.

About points #1-4, I guess the mentor and coaching connection is important, but I don't think that a player like Hayward, and players in general, get excited about "assets" like the Celtics have been hoarding. Future draft picks don't promote immediate winning, which is what a guy entering or in his prime is looking for. Additionally, why would he be excited about a team building around IT and Horford? Horford is an exceptional role player and IT is our only legitimate all-star. I suppose I don't see it.
