Any scenario in which we land Hayward. Hopefully, we pick up a real big as well, like Taj Gibson.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

I'm not pssed off.
George will go to LA, and we get to keep our picks.
Sign Hayward, and we get better.

The Celts taking advantage of their last opportunity to try to become good enough to challenge the Cavs before LeBron retires.

Hayward + Tatum + the Lakers and Nets not picking up any difference makers.

This. At this point, it's Hayward or bust.

If no Hayward, blow it up for all I care. No interest in running this inherently flawed team back once again. Get us three chances at top picks next year. I'm only half joking at this point, too. Sad!

Getting Hayward. Not much to get excited about if this does not happen.

It's going to be a tough sell at this point.

Hayward plus another meaningful upgrade.

I'm not p---ed and I'm not going to get p---ed if they don't get GH either. I would be thrilled to get him though.

I did like the first two draft picks the Cs had.

Gordon Hayward.

Anything less would be a failure. We saved our cap space for this. We passed on Markelle Fultz for this, I'd be irate if we don't get one of the top free agents available, and he's the only one left.

And don't give me Paul freaking Millsap...

Do you really think Ainge preferred Fultz but opted to trade the pick to clear up space for Hayward?

Consistent with reports, it seems to me that the most likely rationale was to trade #1 in order to fraction one major asset into several very good ones. Now that the prospect of facilitating trades has failed, it seems more likely that Ainge has preferred all along to build through the draft with the BKN picks, a la GSW, in order to build a superpower without an exorbitant tax and wasteful spending. I'm pretty big on Tatum, and I like Brown ... but a million things have to go right for that to work out.  Till then, next season will probably play out very similar to this one.  Bleh, so be it.

I do think it was a significant reason, yes. I think Danny reasoned somewhat like:

1) Fultz is only a slightly better prospect than Tatum;

2) By trading down, I can pick up Tatum while adding another asset;

3) Also by trading down, I can pick up extra needed cap space for Hayward;

4) 1 + 2 + 3 equals more overall value than just picking Fultz at one;

5) Thus, I should make the trade down in the draft.

Danny is very utilitarian in that regard, for better or worse.

Before he responds, I will note that we still don't have max cap space, and in order to get said space will likely need to make the same salary-clearing moves as we would have if we kept Fultz.
