I am a huge Ainge supporter but I'm disappointed in his last 6 months.

Think we could've gotten Cousins. (I could be wrong)
Think we could've gotten George. (but reports are that we did give a good offer and the Pacers wanted George out West)
Think we could've gotten Butler. (but we didn't really have a comparable offer if #3 was off the table which it should've been).

Those three things I am not mad at Ainge about because who knows how those conversations went and what those teams were asking from us.  We can't stop those teams from being ran poorly. Also, they were probably asking for way to much.

What I am most dissapointed about is the Markelle Fultz trade.  What the heck was Ainge thinking?  Fultz is so much better than Tatum plus we gave a division rival their perfect puzzle piece!

Ainge didn't want Cousins or Butler and I agree.

PG13 was a misplay by Pritchard, but I agree Ainge could have done more.  Still though, that was stupifying.

Fultz was a ballsy move and the jury is out.

He tried as hard as he could for Durant.

There will be more chances.  The biggest mistake is that every other GM should have taken our deals.  Winslow?

Hayward is Plan A.  If we don't get Hayward I would rather we hold onto our cap space.  Rudy Gay is not a long term solution so we shouldn't waste long term cap space on him.

If KO doesn't bring a huge offer in free agency I wouldn't mind him back for a year on that 4.1m qualifying offer.

But right now with George traded to OKC and Griffin resigned with the Clippers, Hayward is really our best and only move.  Unless a Porzingis trade opportunity wakes up from the dead.

The resign KO and look for bench filler.

The franchise makes the commitment to developing Yabu, Zizic, Brown and Tatum by playing them.

Why waste money on guys that will not do anything to advance your roster? I would look to resigning IT to a max deal also

Correct.  Hayward has always been the objective and the Butler/George/Player X rumors have done nothing to change that.

Can we tank?

We are in line to get TWO top 5 picks regardless of our own record next season.  So there's no sense in doing that.  Remember Nets pick AND Lakers pick?

No need when other teams are doing the tanking for us.

"Plan C" is to be a top five team while likely having four high lottery picks on the roster beginning next season.

The executive of the year award should be renamed the Danny Ainge award.

Except how often do those draft picks turn into stars?

Hint; RARELY

A # 3 pick historically has about a 50% chance of being an All Star.

I'd say that's more than "rarely".
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

If this all does not work out...I would be for Boston not wasting money and committing to the draft and young players in 2018. Two lottery picks in the top 5 is a big reality. And the 2018 finally has some bigs...Imagine getting Porter and Ayton or Doncic.

Now the best player and franchise changing player is Bagley in 2019

That is basically what they have been doing, minus the Horford deal which was in part tied to trying to get Durant.

Exactly.  It looks like the Horford/IT era will have a limited shelf-life.  Certainly Horford did not come here to be part of a re-build.  He had to now that he was part of the plan to get Durant.  It didn't work out but he didn't complain.  I like Al Horford but he is over 30 and not really part of the future.

Ainge has made it clear now that he will be building through the draft.  In the meantime, we should have a few good years of IT/Horford and being very competitive in the East anyway.

They have a shot at the Cavs if Hayward signs. If he doesn't, barring any big trades or signings, we'll see you in '19.

2019 and 2020 would look really promising. Young guys could be a force
