After reading and hearing Doc's comments, I have to unleash on this dude...it's long overdue.

I think it's quite funny that Doc Rivers snubbed the Celtics when Ainge dismantled the team and wanted to rebuild the team in 2013. He wanted to go run the show in LA as the GM and HC. Initially it looked like he had a better team and didn't have to deal with the Celtics rebuild. He even thought he could bring KG with him...Stern put the kibosh on that move. So here we sit 4 years later, the Celtics have a better coach, been to the playoffs several times, been to the ECF, and completely remade the team with countless moves. They are primed to land 2 big time FAs and have a chance at 2 top picks next year. Meanwhile, Doc has lost a 3-1 lead, lost his All Star PG and signed his son to a lucrative deal, which fractured the team. We heard him throw Rondo under the bus but now even CP3 has walked on him. We already know that Grant Hill refused to come to the Celtics because of his days in Orlando with Doc. He could be on his way out depending upon what West wants to do. He wanted both roles and thumbed his nose at the Celtics...but who's rebuilding now...oh and the Celtics have the Clippers 2019 #1 pick which is top 14 protected.

I just shutter to think had Stevens had all the talent Doc has coached over the years including the Big 3, he may have 3 titles by now. Be careful what you wish for Doc....enjoy the rebuild.

Doc is gone, IMO.  As you said, he wanted both roles, i.e. complete control, just as Thibs has now in Minny.  With West coming in, he is not likely to accept a "demotion" to just head coach unless he feels he needs to continue babysitting his son's career.

He's been a disaster as GM, no doubt. He's not a bad coach, and he wasn't a bad coach when he was with the C's. I'm not sure we would have won any more championships in the big 3 era with Stevens--it wasn't Doc's fault we never repeated, it had more to do with KG being injured and Lebron being the GOAT.

Doc's coaching rotations hurt veterans. He doesn't like playing young guys and while he was with the Celtics we were always injured and he goes to the Clippers and the same thing happens. He puts a ton of minutes on his top guys and they are dead by late season or the playoffs. It's not a coincidence...he played for Lenny Wilkins and Pat Riley and that style is dead in this NBA.

... I can still hear Phils words during 2010 game 7, 4th q time-out: "guys, they are the best team in the league in giving up leads."
Maybe you are right, maybe not. That loss still burns.

One of the most OVERRATED coaches in the NBA. Did nothing before having superstars in 2008, in fact the team was a total disaster the year before.
And has done nothing but disappoint with a loaded Clippers team.

Great dude though, met him on a few occasions and he was really nice. Also, played hoops with Austin a few times while he was a kid. Went to college in winter park and he would come to the playground and shoot around with my friends and I all the time. Good kid.

I view trashing Doc Rivers on a Celtics fan forum similarly to the way I view trashing Rajon Rondo on a Celtics fan forum. Both were great when they were with us, and we wouldn't have won #17 without them.

Who cares that Rivers left? He made a choice and the organization parted ways. The Celtics have been in great shape since then. Sure, Doc has his faults and criticism of his choices in LA are valid, but he was also great for us and for that reason I refuse to dwell on this.

I wish him -- and Rondo, for that matter -- the best and I'll always be a fan.

When is CP3 going to take some of the heat for the teams that have failed around him?

It's always something else.  The coach, the costars, depth, injuries, the GM.  Or maybe he just isn't a guy who can be the alpha dog of a deep playoff run.

I disagree. Thibs played a bigger role in the C's winning that title. Doc lost a ton of big games. He waffled on trading Ray Allen over and over and then tried to leave the team and take KG with him. If that trade goes through to the Clippers, we don't get what we have from the Nets. So it's not about trashing Doc, it's taking a magnifying glass to his coaching and seeing some patterns now that CP3 has left. It doesn't mean much for the Celtics now but it does play a part of where the Celtics are today.

Bingo. He's a very good player, but a bit overrated.

Yes, I agree. CP3 is overrated in my opinion.

Trashing Doc is so painfully dumb. He's a not a good GM, though the deal he did this week is arguably the best he's done as one.

He did more for the Celtics than any of us ever will. Appreciate it and move on to trashing someone who hasn't.

Doc has a specific skill set giving him potential to coach well. In the right situation, like with the big 3, he was a good fit. He's had to deal with a series of difficult situations in LA, he handled some
things well, many he has not.

FWIW he won coach of the year with Orlando in 2000, long before he had a bunch of stars to coach.
