Sixers have had a nice off-season and have finally committed to winning and not tanking. They should make the playoffs. Tanking (strategically trying to lose) is in some ways despicable, yet it is all within the rules of the NBA and if Embiid and Simmons play healthy and to their potentials, this team will soon be one to be reckoned with.
Let's compare C's and Sixers in terms of acquisitions/losses so far this summer (apologies if I missed something):
Sixers add: Fultz, Amir Johnson, JJ Reddick
Declared FAs: Tiago Splitter, Sergio Rodriguez
Sixers lose: LAL/SAC/Philly 1st round draft pick in 18 or 19
Celtics add: Tatum, Daniel Theis, LAL/SAC/Philly 1st round draft pick in 18 or 19, Ante Zizic
Declared FAs: Green, Young, and Jerebko
C's Lose: Amir
Let's call the 2nd round picks for C's and Sixers a wash.
So... while many are considering the off-season a strong one for Philly and many seem pretty unsatisfied by the C's off-season thus far, a side by side look really doesn't seem like a homerun for one and a swinging strike 3 for the other. If Danny doesn't add GH or a couple of sound role players to this team, I'll probably feel let down, but even as it stands at this moment, I think the C's have improved their team while protecting/building future assets. And I am certain Danny isn't done.
