Bollocks. Were they going to take Jackson or Tatum without working them out? I mean, not that long ago it was the norm to work out top prospects multiple times before making a decision.

There's no reason to workout Tatum or Jackson. You know what you have with both. There's more certainty about their future than any other players, besides Fultz (yes, even Ball is more mysterious).

Fans are not giving the Celtics scouting dept enough credit. They don't watch youtube clips then workout a guy. They have been following Jackson and Tatum for years. One workout is insignificant.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Tatum had already worked out for Boston in LA at the time of the trade, so this criticism isn't really warranted for Tatum.

And Jackson is still apparently refusing to work out for Boston, so if Jackson is in fact their guy, they might indeed take him without working him out.
I thought I read that Tatum just worked out for us? I guess I misunderstood that part. It makes more sense this way.

Tatum just worked out for us in Waltham today per ESPN.
They also saw him work out in LA too. So twice now.

I didn't see the press conference or read the transcript, but I can't believe this is accurate. It's actually impossible for him to know that. He could only pick one player at number 1, so there is no way for him to be sure that player will be available at 3. This is just talk.

The actual quote is:
Quote
We think there’s a really good chance the player we’ll take at 3 is the player we would have taken at 1

The thread title cut off the qualifiers on it.  He's acknowledging that the player he would have picked at 1 might get picked at #1 or #2
I'm bitter.

Well, if true the trade was a no-brainer. Conversely, Fultz at #1 was a no-brainer.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

As a sports fan, I hope he goes with Jackson. I really like players that have heart and impact winning. I love those players that win AND are talented.

Presumably, Ainge would have asked Philly to disclose their pick before agreeing to the trade.  Thus, it's really just the Lakers we need to worry about.  Considering this is Magic's first draft and first big decision, I'd have to imagine he won't defer to his subordinates and will draft Ball.  Thus, if Ainge would have taken anyone save for Fultz or Ball #1, his comment is likely correct.

How about players that don't want to give you a workout or time of day?

If I remember correctly he cancelled a workout because Boston was going to be present. He doesn't seem too keen.
