Could one argue Crowder is a starter?

I could buy into Crowder, BOS 2018, Memphis 2019

Allows us to preserve resources for next year draft (Brooklyn + LAL pick via Philly).

Bradley, Zeller, two firsts (Non Brook, LAK, or #3) for George.

Draft Jackson

Sign Hayward

Move Crowder, Rozier, Demetirus, Mickey a Brook first and future first for Butler.

Re sign Jerebko and Green

IT/Smart
Butler/Brown/Green
Hayward/Jackson
George/Yabu/Jerebko
Horford/Zizic

i like it ... but i think the offer for PG would need at least one of the Brook, LAK, or #3 pick

George has defined the market.  Seems like LA will step in if a team with longer term appeal makes a play for George, and that probably means only Cleveland or us.

I'd give up Crowder and two later firsts because Crowder's minutes would be taken anyway. No way we should overpay for this one, especially if Hayward is available without giving anything up.

If were trading a starter for PG, Id trade Crowder before Bradley.

First, because of position.
2nd, I think Bradley is more valuable to a contending team.
3rd, I hate to see Bradley go as much as possible. He's been a favorite of mine even when the whole blog is saying "bust" after 1 season.

This I would probably do but definitely NOT this year's #3 or next year's BKN or (LA or SAC 19).

Now another team that may want to pursue PG is Miami.

Not sure what the counterargument would be ....

The counter argument would be that he was a starter for the Celtics as a result of our lack of depth at the big positions.

Crowder shouldn't be a starter. At least not on a team with title aspirations.

I just don't think the picks are enough given the knowledge of how many picks we have in our cupboard. So our responsible practice of stockpiling picks and is going to work against us in terms of leverage.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
We need to stay out of the PG trade unless it is a three way.
There will be no Butler movement untill Dwade makes his announcement. Butler stays if Wade stays.

If you guarantee Zeller's contract to trade him, you can't sign Hayward.

Indiana has almost no leverage.  PG screwed them over in that regard.

maybe maybe not.  this might create a bidding war or it might actually make the Lakers throw in some real value and thus might get Indiana more of a haul.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

One element of the Paul George to Celtics debate must be eliminated from the discussion now.

Rental.

Ainge has proven over many years as one of the top professional sports executives there is that he is not an idiot. He will not trade anything of near term value for Paul George unless he has a contract.

If he plans to trade for George to have him play here for a year and "convince him to stay" then he will trade a bunch of late picks and complimentary players to help Indiana, whose leverage in this deal is about a 2 out of a possible 10, save face or whatever. Please, be assured if Paul George is on the Celtic's roster this coming season, he won't be leaving at the end.

The next part of the discussion.

George is a horse.
Jaylen Brown, Jackson, Tatum, Brooklyn 18 are ponies.

George and other veteran stars don't care about ponies. Ponies sometimes get traded in batches of three for horses.

I suggest that if Ainge is going into "win now" mode the roster turnover this summer will be massive.

Ainge does not have a horse for center. Zizic is a pony. This is a problem.

With the addition of George, Ainge has:

Horford
George
Bradley....all of these horses are proven "playoff" players. Big game players who effectively match up with other playoff teams...of course, George is a "star.: If Ainge gets another horse Hayward/Carmelo then, Thomas is eliminated from a cap share and Bradley is hanging on by a thread.

If Ainge has a shot at George he must get him. It is a Garnett type of situation and they are very rare.

Bradley(6th man?)
Hayward
George
Horford

PG & Center...wild card

Assorted ponies off the bench.

Is this enough? It's enough to be the Buffalo Bills until Lebron goes away. Is this what Ainge wants?

This is not a correctly constructed team. George and Hayward are $66M or whatever and in their own special way, they play the same position...sort of. There is no dominant or almost dominant big. Horford is not a force of any kind underneath.

Can Ainge do exactly what he did with Kevin Garnett? "Paul, we have assembled a legit contender...you will be playing with a top big man, a top guard and a top power forward a solid bench and one of the best coaches in the league." Ainge won't mention the Cavaliers.
