Danny saw something and Brad also-Maybe it was" James Young syndrome".Maybe Ainge and Brad saw an entitled kid that with the number one chalice who was going to conflict with" earn your minutes"
Maybe they sensed the ability to rub Marcus ,Jaylen, Crowder and Rozier the wrong way.
Forcing a premature move of a guard
If this guy was sooo good why didn't Brad force the issue
This is a winning team, not a lottery team the kid went where he should have gone being   surrounded by young immature players that have played a total of 31 games.
I just finished watching three segments of every single one of Jaylens scores on you tube.He was forged over a season often just watching from the bench.
Point guard is such a critical position offensively and defensively.
Maybe this kid was not as good as hype, maybe he was a poison pill of entitlement
Maybe it was his sitting out the end of season when he could have played
Will the kid have the drive and chip to take the hurt, recovery time and pressure of guarding the best point guards in league, will he survive the defense in practice while wearing the weight of number one.
Jackson has that quick twitch he get up quicker than jaylen but those that said jaylen couldn't shoot.Watch out!!!!
SO we move down and get an extra pick
Danny and Brad saw something that destroyed the myth of a superstar for this team, in this place in this time
-I trust the combination of danny and brad

Nice analysis.

I think Brad has been driving this way more than we imagine.

Yup, pretty much. They saw something of concern.  I can see it now too but probably was blind to it when we all thought Fultz was going to be our savior.

Jackson is much more in the Smart/Crowder/Bradley mold of junkyard dog, great defender.  Will Danny build a team of lock-down defenders, or go for a more well-rounded player like Tatum?

I don't know where you getting this more well rounded.   Tatum is not known as a superb two way player.   You seem to be suggesting this on quite a few threads.

Weaknesses: One of the first flaws that jump out in Tatum’s game is his inconsistent intensity on defense ... At times, he seems to just go through the motions defensively and didn't demonstrate the competitive desire to lock his man down ...

A lack of physicality and sporadic losses of focus haven’t helped his stock. Tatum’s film includes too many blow-bys by guards and too many times he handed a bigger opponent post position.

Now he is nifty offense player but can we stop with the he is a two way or versatile player because most scouts do not have him at that.

Jackson shot better in every category BTW save Free throws, had more assists and more steals.

As much as Danny loves to fleece other GM's, if Coach Stevens had ANY reason to try to stop the trade, you can bet that Danny wouldn't have made it.

This was a team decision...what exactly it was based on, we may never know.  Fultz wanted to be drafted #1...and he still will.  It's my hope that if we keep whoever we draft that instead of worrying what position they ended up in the draft, that player is more concerned about what he can do to help the Celtics the most.

It's that kind of selfless attitude that turns a group into a team.

I got it from reading draftexpress and other sources, and others on this board have said the same.  Also it was not "quite a few threads" it was twice.

Look, I admit I don't know much about Tatum and only watched a few youtube clips so I may not know what I'm talking about, I'm just parroting back what I heard, I'm not making it up dude.

Nice analysis.

I think Brad has been driving this way more than we imagine.

Brad does great with what he's given, but he's never won THE WHOLE THING at any level because he's constantly competing with scrappy hard-nosed players that are less talented.  He eventually loses to more talented teams at every level he's coached at.

For this reason I don't let Brad drive the roster determination if I'm Danny Ainge.  I'm not 100% sold that Brad would know what to do if he had the most talented team in a series, but was responsible for motivating and guiding those talented players.

Coaches who can create fire under the most talented players are the ones who go on to win championships... think Phil Jackson, Red Aerbach, etc.

I think Tatum is going to be a good defender.
