Meanwhile, the No. 1 and No. 3 picks in the upcoming draft already have been swapped, and it appears the Boston Celtics are working on a trade to acquire Jimmy Butler from Chicago. It appears they’re planning to pair him with former Butler star Gordon Hayward, a free agent from Utah whom the Celtics hope to reunite with his college coach, Brad Stevens.

Hmm, seems more like speculation to me. Doesn't quote any source or anything, even anonymous sources.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

So the Indy Star is more connected about a Butler trade than The Vertical, Steve Kyler, and CSN Chicago?

Doubtful.

Stephen A. Smith was on Sports center last night, saying his "Sources" told him that was the plan for Boston....Butler.

Unless Woj or Lowe case confirm...no need to get caught up in this

Celtics could have just traded the 1 for him. Why go through a adventure to trade for him? Makes no sense

I don't think anyone said anything about him being more connected than anyone. However, it's from Gregg Doyel, who is the beat writer for the Pacers. It's not as though this is coming from a non-credible source.

What do you mean? Let's assume for a second they trade the #3 pick for Butler, wouldn't you rather have Butler and the Lakers 18/Kings 19 1st rd pick or just Butler by himself? What "adventure"? You could potentially still get Butler, while also netting a major asset. That doesn't make sense?

Why would the Bulls only be interested in the #3 for Butler?

Celtics would prob  need to trade the 1 and maybe another 1st, Crowder etc for him

He has 3 years left in his contract. And is one of the top two way players in the league

He has 2 years left on his deal, the 3rd is his option. Giving up 2 high picks for him would be idiotic. But Ainge specializes in the idiotic now, so anything is possible.

That's the point of the trade. If the bulls do want more than the #3 and salary match we can offer another pick and still keep one of Brooklyn '18 or Laker/kings pick. Before we would have to give up an equivalent amount without being able to keep a valuable asset.

You give away, essentially, Fultz and Doncic or Porter for Jimmy Butler, you've p---ed away your franchise's future for a guy with 2 years on his deal.

Either Wyc Grousbeck is asleep while Ainge burns his kingdom or he knows less about basketball than I do cricket.

I don't think anyone said anything about him being more connected than anyone. However, it's from Gregg Doyel, who is the beat writer for the Pacers. It's not as though this is coming from a non-credible source.

Being a beat writer doesn't make somebody credible. Hell, Shira Springer lifted material from CelticsThug in one of her columns.

It doesn't seem odd to you that an Indy beat writer has the inside scoop on a deal that doesn't involve Indy? When more connected sources are denying it, and there's no sourcing for the rumor?

Is he even the Pacers beat writer? I know him for deflategate stuff, and for saying that Bill Belichick is "maybe above average".

As it stands now, the C's have two "shots on goal" in the 2018 lottery.  If you want Butler, you have to avoid giving up either one.  I would offer 2017 #3, MEM pick, Crowder, Zeller

Indiana and Illinois are neighboring states and the teams play in the same division, so it's not impossible that he could have some contacts.
