This it's the right answer if we're not trading the pick. Tatum has legitimate pro level offensive game and athleticism. I think he also had the lowest floor. Those who are calling him a ball hog and black hole clearly didn't watch much of him. Kennard was the scorer on that team and Tatum grew throughout the year and complimented that nicely. The big difference was that Tatum could score one on one creating his own shot which is exactly what we need from the bench next year. No one we draft is going to start so this will be a great result.

I wonder if Lauri Markkanen is not who they are really after...?

He is a mini porzingis, he was there with Danny doing is workout while Fultz was doing is in phila just before deal was agreed, maybe we trade down again to get him and another asset and have our own mini unicorn with yet another asset that we could throw in for a superstar later on....

I agree. To me Jackson is not an ideal fit with the roster we already have and hayward about to join... I do like Tatum as an elite go to scorer for our team but if Ainge saw Markkanen as a mini Porzingis then I might put him ahead of tatum...

Do people like Markkanen or am I the only one who would just take him straight at 3 if we can't move back for him....?

not at #3
Markkanen main weapon is his shooting...but he is not strong in creating shots nor driving to the basket.  Defensively he can guard maybe 2 positions

Disagree.  He can create off the dribble and drive to the bucket.  He's just not a great defender or rebounder.

All of this. Duke and Tatum both improved throughout the year. Even though they lost early to South Carolina in the tournament, they did win the ACC tournament. Their team had chemistry issues early on, and even Coach K banned the team from the locker room for a few days at one point. I would hope to see Tatum playing as a small ball 4 with Jaylen at the 3. Matchup nightmare IMO.

He looked plenty athletic enough to potentially become an elite scorer.

I really have no idea who you take at #3 but if it's Jackson I hope everything I read about him is wrong. Because I know what this team needs and what the experts say he does none of them. The last thing this team needs is to waste another lottery pick on Marcus Smart. Smart may have been the best choice at that time but when you have the #1 pick and you draft another Smart you may as well throw that pick away!

i think you just nailed Tatum pick though the eyes of CBS ......a small BiG to play small ball against GS ...if Boston keeps the pick.

we are trading the pick

For what? Butler and George don't put us over Cleveland let alone Golden State. Not giving it up for Carmelo either.

why all this talk of being OVER THE TOP now? SO we cannot upgrade? unless we get another lebron??

really?

we are still a work in progress. DA can upgrade now and still keep some picks to draft and develop. I am not sure why this is so hard for many to comprehend.  WHo knows DA may just want to use all draft picks and develop but that is not practical. he will trade some picks for players. get ready.

hell there may never be a move by itself that puts us over the top. it will take time slow;y adding and developing.

What does Marcus smart have to do with Josh Jackson?  They're not even remotely similar.  I mean, if you compared Jackson to brown at least you'd be in the ballpark.

Tatum could end up being a ridiculous talent at the PF in today's NBA.  He and Jaylen would complement each other well, too.  Throw the bruiser (Zizic) next to him at the 5.

Yep...if you don't deal it...take Tatum. Adds to the roster

I get the feeling Ainge is going to use the picks to add players through the draft. Wait out the Cavs by remaining young

Jackson is a top flight athlete, Marcus is a hard worker and all but can dunk when he gets to the rim. You are right they are not the same except they both play great defense....
