What if I told you....

Tatum is Grant Hill

I've been on him all season. The guy is the most versatile in this draft. He can shoot, create for others and play defense. I just never thought we had a chance to get him but he's within reach now.

I'm taking him over Jackson. Jackson has issues scoring but is a better defender. Don't we have enough of those guys, we know what that looks like. When you need a bucket, we need someone who can break down a defense and score of get someone else a good shot.

Just my own comparisons
Fultz = Harden
Ball = Kidd
Jackson = Iggy
Tatum = Hill

Would not be surprised if Tatum were the selection, especially if Jackson is gone.  But Tatum is almost the anti grant hill.  They are almost nothing alike once you get past the dook small forward thing.

Hill was a point forward type.  Tatum is a black hole type.  Hill was a good defender.  Tatum is not.  Hill was not a long range shooter while Tatum still can develop that.

Can Tatum be the anti - Ben Simmons? Thatd actually be a fun matchup. It doesn't make me feel any better about the team though.

Think about Tatum and Brown on the wings in 3 years. You are talking MJ and Pippen type of defense with the ability to switch, rebound, get in passing lanes and fastbreak points.

Tatum is not a good defender, he's the opposite.

I wonder if Lauri Markkanen is not who they are really after...?

He is a mini porzingis, he was there with Danny doing is workout while Fultz was doing is in phila just before deal was agreed, maybe we trade down again to get him and another asset and have our own mini unicorn with yet another asset that we could throw in for a superstar later on....

I agree. To me Jackson is not an ideal fit with the roster we already have and hayward about to join... I do like Tatum as an elite go to scorer for our team but if Ainge saw Markkanen as a mini Porzingis then I might put him ahead of tatum...

Do people like Markkanen or am I the only one who would just take him straight at 3 if we can't move back for him....?

not at #3
Markkanen main weapon is his shooting...but he is not strong in creating shots nor driving to the basket.  Defensively he can guard maybe 2 positions

We need length on this team, and Tatum gives us the best case there. He can play SF or PF in a small lineup. Ainge has said that there were 5 guys they were looking at weeks ago, and everyone had a forgone conclusion it would be Fultz. Danny opened money for a max contract here and could still get the player he wants. Who's to say Lonzo Ball doesn't fall to 3 and Ainge likes him more than Fultz, as we know Ainge likes big PGs, as he liked Harden and Tyreke Evans coming out of college in that roll.

Grant Hill also played 3 years in college, not one. Grznt Hill was not a great defender as a freshman. And Tatum is more skilled offensively at the same stage. They are different players, but it's tough to compare a guy that played 3 years for Coach K vs One year. Big difference, especially on the defensive end.

I like Tatum ore than Jackson. He can shoot. He can score on all 3 levels. He can develop into a good defender. This is not the 90's. Offense wins Championships. Tatum is much more advanced offensively than Jaylen Brown was last year. He can Help Celtics from day one and can play/guard multiple positions.

I'm leaning Tatum as well. I don't see how Jackson becomes a valuable offensive player.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

For what? Butler and George don't put us over Cleveland let alone Golden State. Not giving it up for Carmelo either.
