It's a done deal and now look for Ainge to flip some of these picks for a stud. It could be Butler, PG13, Porzingis or Davis.

Ainge isn't doing this deal to wait another year for all these rookies...he's got another deal coming.

It ain't going to be Davis.  Still don't have enough for him and is he even in the block?

But I agree that this is just about Jackson because he isn't even guaranteed.  DA isn't stupid enough to make this trade if that was the case.

Watch it just be PG13 or Butler...

this seems likely to backfire

Last time Ainge made a move this confusing was Ray Allen for #5 back in '07. Earlier this year just after the deadline one rival GM said that Ainge was plotting something big and that that terrified him.

Hopefully this is the confusing first step in "something big".

Still think it's PG13.

I also think Danny knows for sure that one of Hayward or Griffin is signing here. No other reason to make such a trade in that case.

Would love for it to be AD, but I just don't see why he'd be available right now.

Hey man, chill out. I know you're the Stan Van Gundy of the blog, but you don't stop whining in every single thread.

Guys go back and look at the playoff games. We had no rebounding, no shot blocking and no wing offense. Ainge knows he needs someone to defend LeBron and the Cavs could be broken up within a year. Once this is over the Celtics will be ruling the East for the next 5-7 years.

This is a great trade. Ainge is going to land us 1 or 2 top NBA All Stars and probably not have to tear down the team. Look for guys that already have contracts and he can already know the finances of the deals. Fultz isn't THAT good yet.

Ainge - "we have good players but we need great players". - a day after the playoffs ended.

Could be PG or Butler, Zinger as the wildcard.  Regardless, I agree the other shoe is about to drop.  This trade just doesn't make sense otherwise.

I think either Danny definitely knows a FA is coming here, or the exact opposite -- he feels compelled to make a trade (Butler/PG) in order to entice seal the deal for a FA to choose Boston.

Whatever move(s) ensues, I think we're rolling out a big 4 as early as next season.  Pretty crazy thought.  And IT - Butler/PG - Hayward - Horford can absolutely compete with CLE.  Honestly, I think we'd be the better team.

I believe it's Davis.

Here's why
Rim protector - check
Commands double team - check
Pick & Roll with IT - check
Rebounding to help Horford - check
Already under contract - check
Davis will dominate the East - check
He attracts talent - check

The Pelicans roster is bare...nothing there besides Cousins and Davis. Holiday is gone. Playing twin towers in the West does nothing for them because they can't beat the Warriors or Spurs playing that big. They can remake their team with young players.

PG13-would have to agree to an extension - ???
Butler-he isn't worth all of this movement

Spot on. Moving to the 3rd pick seems to suggest that he already knows.

And agreeing to a big trade before free agency only makes it that much more likely to sign a Hayward or Griffin.

It's just going to be interesting to see who the trade is actually for.

So Ainge's "plan" is to field an entire team of small forwards? Paul George - even in the unlikely event he stays more than one year - isn't getting us past CLE, and if Lebron bolts for LA next year, we aren't getting past GSW with this roster. Laughable to think this will work.

Remember KG wasn't available either.

It's a giveaway because Ainge wouldn' have done this deal this early. Most big deals happen while on the clock to see what other teams come calling. He wanted to do it now to start working on the other deal.

I believe the other team already told Ainge what was needed to get a deal done. So now he can go and get it done.
