...wait if Josh Jackson is available at #3 before we execute the trade?

With all the rumors flying around, it seems like the target for Danny Ainge is more picks and be able to land Josh Jackson. Does Philly want Josh Jackson too, which is why they're trying to move at #1?

Regardless, why can't we pick Markelle at #1, and have a deal in place with the Sixers WITH THE ASSURANCE that if Jackson is there at #3, we'll pull the trigger? Wouldn't this be a safer way to conduct business? We negotiate for what we want, and have this clause, that way if the Lakers took him, we keep the best prospect in the draft.

Is this too much to ask?

You're right the trade should be done post draft...

Might consider Tatum to be just as good and might also have a deal in place to drop down more and get the Kings picks and maybe even another future one

this plan makes sense

pick fultz , then trade him that night as par of a deal to land another player you want .

If we don't love Fultz then I like this plan.  Hopefully DA is thinking the same way.  Draft Fultz with the agreement in place to trade him for the Sixers #3 plus other 1st round picks package if Jackson is still available.

If the Lakers take Jackson, then you negotiate with Magic Johnson instead...

I would really hate to lose out on Fultz AND also lose out on Jackson.

Fair, but we wait if he's available at the #3. We can't be taking the risk on missing out on BOTH Josh Jackson and Markelle Fultz.

Could be. But here's what I'm working.

1. Fultz is the best prospect in the draft.

2. Danny apparently "wants" Josh Jackson, per "sources".

Tatum could be as solid a prospect, but these two kids are really who we are gunning for, for sure. We can't be risking ourselves missing out on these and settling for Jayson Tatum, no matter how good he can be.

This is the culmination of the PP, KG trade, and we can't screw this up. We either get the best prospect or we get the guy we want. We shouldn't be settling.

this has to be THE plan .....unless it involves Butler or other stars or NON lottery teams .......you take Fultz .....then LA , Sac , Philly ...they all know the score ..WHAT danny wants to,swap Fultz .....he goes to the highest bidder .....Magic Johnson is liable to be THAT bidder .....he is hell bent on i,proving the Lakers NOW .

If the other teams flinch .....miss ...then we still got Fultzno matter

Drafting Fultz and then dealing is the only plan where DA can get what he wants .

Because god forbid we end up with Lonzo Ball, the best prospect in the draft...

Why don't we pick Markelle Fultz, THEN...do nothing. Like a sane front office.

Exactly, but it's looking like Danny is insane with either Josh Jackson, more assets, or both. In that case, this should be our Plan B.

I'm a Danny guy. I've always respected, trusted, and defended him. If he's the one who wants to do this, fire him and replace him with Zarren. The deal that Lowe is reporting would irreparably damage this franchise.

I'm shocked and disappointed as much as anyone that we are seriously considering trading down.

But let's try to make sense of this.

DA is a guy who had a nice, lengthy career as a player, few seasons as a coach, and now as a GM. He's made some great picks and trades, and some bad ones. He's hired good coaches. He's someone we generally trust.

There just has to be something he doesn't love about Fultz if this is true. He can love Jackson just as much, but he CAN'T risk it by trading the TOP pick. Maybe it's just a smokescreen. Maybe he's trying to create offers without real intent unless he gets "The Godfather" offer.

I'm going to have to trust Ainge here, because it's such a ballsy move that he has to be sure of it.

There goes a nice and easy draft night.

I'm just hoping that whatever he does, we don't miss out on what a lot of people that matter thinks is the best player of this class, and a guy who reports are saying Danny "really likes."

And we can do that by taking Fultz at #1. He can deal all he want's, but I hope he doesn't put us at risk on losing both guys.
