That's the ONLY reason I see this possible trade happening.

Okay maybe some other smaller reasons, but hypothetically say you add #3, 2018 Lakers and 2019 Kings first rounders (UNPROTECTED).

I think the Pelicans could be intrigued with the potential of adding 3 of: #3, 2018 BKN Pick, 2019 Kings 1st, and 2018 Lakers 1st. And maybe another asset (or two).

You may also get to keep a lot of the core like Jaylen, IT, Horford, etc.

That being said, it asks the question:

IS ANTHONY DAVIS WORTH THAT, AND ARE WE BEATING CLEVELAND AND/OR GOLDEN STATE WITH HIM??

Quote
However, this could set the stage for the Celtics to send a multitude of top picks for a seemingly unattainable trade target such as Anthony Davis, with enough picks in the package to allow a complete rebuild overnight for a team such as the Pelicans. The Celtics already have the number one and next year’s Nets pick, but this trade could allow them to posses at least three or four high lottery picks to package if the Sixers’ rights to the Lakers and Kings picks next year are in play.

New Orleans’ GM Dell Demps is in a peculiar situation, where he has been essentially fighting for his job for years and has taken several steps to try to make his team a playoff contender. Demps knows that if Davis doesn’t see a clear path to contention in the near future that he could demand a trade at a time where leverage is poor. A draft night trade that can give the Pelicans an unprecedented package of picks could be his only exit strategy while saving face. If the Celtics are getting back channel feedback that a star such as Davis is ready to leverage his way out of town, this may be their one change to facilitate it.

While there is little to indicate that Davis is a possibility, he is one of the few truly elite young players that is in a situation where the current team is in a difficult spot.

Anthony Davis, now he is worth trading the 1st pick. But does NO trade Davis knowing they are stuck with Cousins and a 5 year rebuild?
Let's Go Celtics!!

Of course he is.  If we walk away from this trade with PHI 2017 #3, LAL 2018 1st, SAC 2019 1st, all unprotected, Danny calls NO and says:

PHI #3, BK 2018 1st, LAL 2018 1st, SAC 2019 1st plus salary match for AD

if they balk we can always tag on MEM 2019 and others to see if they bite.

Uhh was more intriguing. That or the #1 overall pick + unprotected 2018 Brooklyn + 2019 right to swap with Bos.

Don't make no sense for them to pass up on the #1 this years pick for #3. Nice try though.

It feels like people are reaching here. Trying to justify this move.

Your best chance to go after AD is to use an A+ asset. the 2017 #1 pick is the best draft pick possibly traded right now. Its the best centerpiece for an AD trade imagineable.  How does turning it into 2 lesser assets increase our chances at grabbing AD?

Think we are acquiring the assets to be able to get AD next year after NO has another terrible year.

I guess it depends how you feel LAL and SAC do the next few years, which could gauge the value of those picks.

And we have #1 pick, 2018 BKN Pick, then not much else in terms of draft capita to bring in Davis. In that case, we'd have to also part with a lot more (including multiple key players).

No.

There is no Anthony Davis at the end of this rainbow. There is ZERO reason for New Orleans.

This is Ainge trying to show he's a genius and fans trying to create alternate scenarios where Ainge isn't just unnaturally obsessed with drafting high energy defensive guys who can't shoot.

and the assumption is that Jackson and LA '18 will appreciate in value more than Markelle Fultz will?

For just more picks?? There HAS to be some sort of "2 for 1" in play here.

Some picks are used to draft (this and/or next year), and some others are packaged in a trade for a STAR. I'm assuming it's #1 for #3 and 2 other future picks.

Maybe Davis, maybe someone else.

It really would.

Same with IT-Horford at times.
