If the Celtics strike out on Hayward, Griffin, or some other option...would you consider spending the cap space (last year available) on Rudy Gay?

I know he hasn't been a winner in the past but he just turned 30 (mature now?) and he's not getting a max deal.  He could provide another crunch time option, helping Isaiah out.

I'm not a huge Rudy Gay fan, so I would pass.  I don't think he possesses the shot creating or shooting ability we need on the wing.

Here's a tangentially related question.  Is there an example of an NBA player who has successfullly recovered from an Achilles tear?   An ACL/MCL tear is no longer an NBA death sentence, but an Achilles rupture still is.  Is this correct?

No.  I would spend the space on either renegotiating IT's current contract to a 4 year max contract (would be at ~25 million instead of the ~30 million he could get next year) or absorbing Melo's contract (as long as we're sending nothing/minimal assets out)

Rudy Gay does not interest me in the least
I'm bitter.

If we are talking a one year deal closer to 10 million the 20 million, maybe.

If we miss out on Hayward I'd rather just plug Jaylen Brown in sooner and let him develop than overpay Rudy Gay.

I like Gay provided it's a team friendly contract. He would probably be the second best shot creator on the team outside of Isaiah.

Gay is long, athletic and can shoot. He would be the ultimate buy low reclamation project for the C's. Outside of Hayward, Griffin, Millsap, and Gallinari I think he might be the best option in free agency.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

If he is healthy, I'd rather Gay than Gallinari.  He is just flat out better than Gallinari.

Dominique + Kobe. They were both much better than Gay, but also older when injured.

You couldn't be more wrong. Gallinari is better at literally everything except rebounding (and that's only a marginal difference).
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Gay has more apg and a higher AST%.  Gay is a better shooter from 2 (Gallinari is better from 3 and the line).  Gay is a better rebounder.  Gay scores a lot more.  Gay steals more.  Gay blocks more shots.  Gay is a better defender.  Gay has a higher PER, VORP, DBPM.  Gay has a much better peak season (or any 3 year stretch).

Gay is coming off an injury, but it isn't like Gallinari is a picture of health as Gay has generally been a healthier player.

Gay is better than Gallinari.

Rudy Gay or any other non-superstar, non ~vet min contract free agent only makes sense in one scenario - one year of guaranteed money after we strike out on the actual superstars. And with him there's the major issue of whether he'll be back to speed by the end of next season. Just don't see it.
