All the talk has been about Hayward and I understand the romance. It just doesn't make sense to me if we want to win a championship. Next summer Cousins is a free agent and possibly Lebron. Does Ainge commit that max space to Hayward over a shot of one of those superstars? Ainge usually shoots for the moon when he attempts to pull the trigger. Why is everyone ready to go all in on Hayward?

The cap space is available this year, not next.

And if the Celtics had wanted to use the cap space on Cousins, I am sure they would have tried to trade for him.

Not everybody is wanting to go all-in on Hayward. But the majority of them probably understands that Hayward doesn't bring us a championship, but will keep the Celtics very good until the younger ones are ready to take over.

yup, unfortunately the favorable cap situation won't be waiting for us next year.

We could have max space if we were willing to renounce IT and AB's Bird Rights, but there's no way any max FA looking to win now would sign with a team who's best player was Al Horford
I'm bitter.

The idea of paying Hayward somewhere in or around $30 million per leaves me less than enthused. He's a really nice player, but I'm not sure that move makes the most sense for the Celtics. In DA I trust though.

First off - no sense in trying to get LeBron. He isn't coming here - ever. If he leaves Cleveland it will be to play with his buddies. We have none of his buddies here and we aren't getting any of them. Sure, Ainge can make the call to show respect but let's face it if he leaves Cleveland it will be to LA.

Why would we want Hayward?

Do you want a 6'8 Small Forward who shot 40% from 3pt last season and led his team in scoring?

He also upped his performance in the playoffs, increasing his ppg, apg, rpg, and increased his 3pt%.

A tall wing in his prime who shoots extremely efficient from all over the court, and gets better when the pressure gets higher.

There's a lot more reasons but these basic ones should help.
