The front page story on Celtics Blog this morning said that he was blown away by the reception Pierce received in his last game here.

Let's say he wants to come here. And Hayward also wants to come here. And let's say they both want the same contract. Put the risk of injury aside: Who is the better fit with our current personnel, Griffin or Hayward?  I can't help but feel Griffin fulfills a bigger need for us.

Also, while the injuries do scare me, one reason Griffin may be the better choice is because he wouldn't interfere with the development of our young guys. If we sign Hayward Brown isn't gonna get nearly as many minutes. On the other hand, we have no elite front court prospects besides Zizic (Signing Griffin/Hayward likely means no Yabu next season for financial reasons) and Griffins game when healthy fits the team like a glove.

If he is really considering leaving the Clippers, then yes, he would be considering the Celtics.

I'm a little more willing to gamble on Griffin because the C's are playing with house money right now. They weren't supposed to be this far along in the rebuild at this point and they have some young talent (Brown, Fultz, Brkln '18) that would barely be entering their prime when a Griffin contract expires in 4 years.

And even if Griffin busts, I think the cap stabilizing will make big, expiring contracts valuable like they were before the cap spiked, which means if the worst happens, the contract might only be onerous for 3 years.

All of that is to say that I'm more willing to take a gamble than I otherwise might be. Griffin is the much better fit, Hayward is the safer bet. But Griffin also has the higher upside, IMO. I think I'd go Griffin.

I have to say I could see both guys wanting to come here, and which one Ainge would prefer is one of the biggest questions of this offseason. I think for a vet, unless they can find their way onto GS, we are the best option for taking a shot at a title in the near future. Cleveland can't sign anyone.

If we go for one of these two, it means cutting into some of the Celtic's current core to get it done. It seems useless to do this unless there is another deal lined up to balance the roster and line us up to take our shot.

I think Ainge decides on who to sign based on which is the best secondary deal available to complement the signing. Hayward and Griffin would both be great, but we would need one more big move.

I've been pushing the sign Griffin and trade for George angle for awhile on here.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Does a core of Griffin, Hayward, Horford, IT4, and Fultz/Bradley - backed up by perhaps the best bench in basketball: (Smart, Olynyk, Crowder, Fultz/Bradley/Jaylen Brown/T. Zeller) beat Cleveland?

Are the Griffin injury concerns ameliorated somewhat by the fact that he could play far fewer minutes with Horford and Olynyk in the rotation?

TP.

It's the only way to immediate contention. We should really explore this opportunity.

Definitely but there's no way for the C's to get both Hayward and Griffin. They wouldn't even be able to get one of them without dumping Olynyk, Zeller, and maybe someone else.

The real question should be ''are the Celtics considering Blake''?

I think you are referencing this article: http://www.celticshub.com/2017/05/26/looking-forward-celtics-future/

Would you sign and trade IT4 for Griffin? If Paul goes to the Spurs, the Clips will need someone to keep the fans in their seats. ...as I understand that article, the bigger issue is the future, not the present, no? So long as we sign Hayward first.
