  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I believe Ball will come out of the gate firing up the league with his style of play. There will be posts on this thread after the first month of the season saying Ainge blew the draft by not selecting Ball and taking Fultz. Folks like a Beat LA will be leading the charge. Like they were with the Jaylen Brown pick.

But then Fultz will start to earn more minutes, as he learns the offensive and defensive rotations. There will be glimmers of his greatness. He will slowly emerge as a stellar scorer and play maker. May not happen until season 2 or 3. The kid was 18 until a couple of weeks ago for goodness sake.

But starting around year 3, when the Ball buzz has worn off, it will be clear why Fultz was the number 1 pick. He will be averaging over 20 ppg, getting 7-8 assists, and grabbing 5-6 rebounds a game.

And the Danny Doubters will have to find another player to criticize Ainge on. Probably the 2018 Nets pick.

That's how it works here on Celticsblog.

😁😂

I don't know, I know there are a couple in the minority that like Jackson or Tatum, but is there anybody here who is pushing for Ball over Fultz?

You aren't wrong about CB (or message boards, in general), but I think if Ainge selects Fultz, very few people will actually be angry about it. Even if it doesn't work out, it is still the right thing to do.

And I think most who were upset about Jaylen weren't upset about the player, but about not getting Butler. Finding out later what the deal really entailed drove most of us back away from the cliff. Still, last year any 1 of 6 guys could have been taken with the #3 pick; luckily we aren't in that position this year (consensus #1).

Most of the critics either don't offer a preference, or when they do want to trade away all of the picks for a tier 2 all star like Butler. Then they throw analytical stuff at you to justify their position.

Yeah I wasn't intending to suggest anyone was pushing for us to take Ball. I just have a strong hunch that the Lakers will take him, and he will energize a pathetically rudderless team and create early excitement. Which will lead to all the Ainge haters to jump all over him for not drafting Ball. Watch.

Fultz is the most offensively polished freshmen to come out experts have seen in a long time. And he just turned 19. Even MJ isnt as offensively gifted at that age..well different era anyways.

We have not had a player this good offensively at this age...ever.
Fultz is not perfect and quite far from it but our team is so flawed offensively that Fultz will come in and immediately impact the second unit like no other player can. That is how good he is.

Complete offensive arsenal. Find me another guard prospect as polished in as many areas as Markelle. I'm not sure that player exists.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

He has all of the tools to be an elite pick and roll scorer and playmaker, including size and shooting range.

Fantastic asset for any team to have and the type of player with the greatest chance of achieving stardom in today's league.

I can see an argument for jayson Tatum. No one else is close.

Well he said...find me another guard prospect

Fultz has higher potential .... But not considering age/potential ... Derrick White and Juwan Evans are two pgs that showed off high level "offensive polish" last season.  Stats (3pt, assist/turnover, advanced stats (PNR) etc.

What? Who? Ball? Fox? Tatum?

Maybe Tatum, who else really?

Derrick White is going to be 23 this summer and only averaged 18 points a game and has a 6'7" wingspan. It's JAWUN EVANS and he's 5'11" . Really? These are two second rounders.... Kobi Simmons?
