How quickly these things come come back full circle.  :-\

George doesn't want to go to the Fakers and blow his best years on a crap team.

Lebron doesn't want to go to the Fakers and be on a crap team either, no matter what the Fakers do they can't build a team as good as Cleveland!

This is all that "everyone wants to go to LA" BS we hear every year and there is no truth to it! Players want to go to good teams, players want to go to Cleveland because they can win. Fakers are going to have to build their young core and hope one or two of them become all stars so they can become a destination again. Right now they are not a destination, please stop believing anything else!

I tend to believe that the George to LA hype is overblown. However if they had a chance to trade for him and offer more money than others in 2018 then it's a different story. Which is why I expect them to go for him.

As Who suggests I think this is an overpay. They aren't left with enough pieces to add another star which would be necessary, unless they can clear cap space. Would the Pacers take less though? I'm not so sure.

If that was the best offer they had, they would, but they could probably wait until the trade deadline and make a move then (even to LA).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

They could but then you risk his value diminishing completely, especially if Indiana aren't that great and he's indicated where he might like to end up. Indiana handed some average contracts to Young, Ellis and Jefferson which I think they'd like to get rid of if they could. This helps get rid of one of them, by the deadline I think they'd hope to get rid of another.

I think the change in management makes it more likely he gets traded. Bird was responsible for bringing in these contracts, almost as a last resort to build a team around George. It hasn't worked and if they aren't able to improve this summer then they need to get the best value for him while they can. I can't think of a better offer another team would be willing to make

I have no doubt Magic is in over his head but even he is not stupid enough to trade for a player he'll get for free in a year.

Would he? Can anyone actually show me a statement from George saying he would leave for LA in free agency? What if the Heat or Rockets came knocking?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I'm a little over the George to LAL in FA nonsense. The Lakers suck and they are also going to suck next year. As has been mentioned, players are even going to bleepin' Cleveland - not because of the amazing atmosphere, but the opportunity to win. BKN (NY) has the same allure as LAL and the only player they've been able to sign is Jeremy Lin.

Until LAL gets considerably better, I don't think anybody has to worry about them signing the best FAs. Heck, even Dwight Howard left as a FA, and that is when they were still trying to contend.
