This is a very good trade for Boston. Philly does this if they are desperate for Bradley, who would change the culture over there...
The Philly culture is just fine and it is being set by Coach Brown and Embiid. They don't need anyone to change the culture.
I disagree, it takes a lot to go from Lottery every year to playoff team to contender. The Sixers have zero perimeter defenders and Bradley is a top perimeter defender and can shoot and has been deep into the playoffs. Bradley would be a wonderful pick up for Philly to help bring along their good young talent. It's probably not a good idea to trade within the division...
Try again. Covington is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. When he was shooting like crap during the 1st part of the season and getting booed mercilessly by Philly fans, Coach Brown didn't even consider benching him because his perimeter defense was so important. If he agrees to it, they'll do a front loaded extension.
The Sixers went from 10 wins to 28 wins with Embiid only playing 31 games and Simmons playing none. The only goal Coach Brown set for them was top 15 defense. They ended up ranked 19th even though Embiid only played 31 games and Okafor ended up getting a lot of minutes after Noel was traded. In January, they were only 4 games out of 8th and talking playoffs. They even continued the playoff talk for a bit after Embiid got injured until reality set in. If Embiid plays 60+ games, they've got a good shot at the playoffs. If he doesn't, they don't. Bradley wouldn't change that equation much.
As for Bradley, he would be a pretty good fit but he's a 1 year rental. There is a no way he agrees to an extension. If they really want him, they can wait a year and overpay him in free agency just like they'd have to do if they traded for him.
You are right about Covington being a very good perimeter defender, I totally forgot that. Bradley is an all defense thou and a much better on ball defender. Bradley would be a good fit for Philly. I was commenting on the trade of Šarić and the Lakers pick that Philly has next year and thinking it would be a good trade for the Celtics. I still think it would be good for The Sixers to get some vets, like Bradley to help with the jump to a playoff team. You are right that The Sixers could wait until after next year to add Bradley but a lot could happen between now and then and if they really want Bradley they should move now. Do you think Philly will make the Playoffs next year? I think if they added Bradley they would.
As I said, I think the Sixers playoff hopes reside on Embiid playing at least 60 games. Embiid's on/off differential was top 5 in the league. If Embiid stays healthy, the Sixers should easily be a top 10 defense and top 10 defensive teams usually make the playoffs. It is possible the attempt to have Simmons run their offense could hinder their playoff chances as could having a difficulty early schedule.
I think they'll keep the #3 and draft one of the defensive oriented prospects, probably Jackson. I'd only trade the Lakers or Kings pick for a star trade. If Embiid can't stay healthy, the Lakers pick gives them a good shot at one of top bigs. Ayton and Bamba get mentioned a lot but I really like Robert Williams.
Bradley would help but they shouldn't trade anything of much value for him. I certainly would do Bradley for Okafor and toss in a couple 2nds or the protect OKC 1st. I would be interested in trading for Butler or McCollum. Both would be good fits with Simmons and Embiid. As for free agency, I would avoid big long term contracts. Holiday is intriguing though but his injury history gives me pause. I didn't realize how good of a defender that he is.
Holiday, Butler, Covington, Simmons, Embiid would be a nasty team that the Cavs wouldn't want to see in the playoffs. If Colangelo could pull that off, he'd put to bed the Hinkie talk.
I don't think the Sixers could give away Okafor, and I think they tried... The Sixers right now have a very unbalanced roster. It's a guard driven league dominated by shooting. I guess this is the year they could make some moves to place out the roster or will it be one more year in the lottery?
I said I wouldn't trade much value for Bradley and Okafor definitely falls into that category. He really wasn't healthy all last season. If he works at it, I think he could build back some of his value. They do need to move him this season for whatever they can get.
Shooting is important but so is defense. GSW and the Spurs are the two best defensive teams. I wouldn't exactly call it a guard driven league with Lebron, KD, Kawhi, PG, Giannis, ... It has been a league lacking in good bigs especially ones that can be effective offensively and defensively. I think and hope that is changing. When you look at the top under 25 players, the bigs are quite strong. If he stays healthy, Embiid will probably be a top 5 offensive and top 5 defensive center next season. He could become both an MVP and DPOY candidate in time. With teams falling over themselves in the futile attempt to emulate GSW, Embiid is going to be even more dominant.
The Sixers certainly need to improve their guards. They do have TLC who looked pretty good at the end of last season. They also have Kormaz stashed in Europe. They've got the #3 pick in a strong PG draft. Fultz would have been ideal but they'll have at least 2 of Ball, Fox and Smith available to choose from if they so desire. None are ideal but they all could work out well.
LeBron , KD, Glannis, KL, Pg can all act as ball handlers and distributers for there teams. Some of them fuctioning as guards even if they are called forwards in their teams offense. Other dominate guards are Bledsoe, Conley, Curry, Dragic, George Hill, Damian Lillard, Klye Lowry, Chris Paul, Rondo, Rubio, Kemba, Westbrook, Bradley beal, Batum, Avery Bradley, DeMar Derozen. James Harden, Korver, Middleton, Oladipo, Redick, Dwyane Wade, waiters, McCollum, Issah Thomas, Should go into all the small forward ball handlers left off of here? All the future hall of fame players playing in the finales all are guards/ forwards that handle the ball and shoot and pass like guards. The outlier bigs like Green and Love both are shooters and function more like guards than traditional bigs. Though they both can rebound, but steph Curry has out rebounded Trastain Thompson , a more traditional big man, throughout the 1st three game of these finals. Thompson, ZaZA, McGee are really not playable in this finals. The pistons are trying to dump Drummond and he's probbaly someone you could trade Oakfor for. The Celtics made it all the way to the Eastern conference finals and even with lots of injuries still took a game from the cavs and they had no traditional bigs. Our main bigs shoot threes and are out rebounded by our guards. I think that if Embiid ever gets healthy that with his speed and outside shooting he will be an amazing outside shooting big man. But I believe that it's the ballhandlers, passers and especially the shoots who will be ruling this league for years to come.
