Call me a homer. Last night while watching the finals I kept on thinking that the Celtics could put up a better fight than the Cavs. I see the current finals as a sweep, unless Kyrie goes game 4, 3rd quarter for a half against the Warriors.
The Cavs rightfully beat us. By far they were the superior team, but we all know that matchups in the NBA can cause a team different problems.
Sadly, this is all hypothetical, let's say the Celtics had 4 or 5 days off before the series started with the Warriors. With the playoff roster (healthy IT), what do you folks think the games would be like? Celtics steal a game or two, closer than the Cavs have kept it, the same, or getting run out of the building like the ECF?

Reasons why I think the games would be closer. 6-13 points
1. I watch all games with green shades covering my eyes!
2. Golden States defense has been very good against the Cavs, however like Ty Lue said, the Celtics are a very hard team to defend. Spacing, ball movement, ATO's, motion offense. The Cavs have played a lot of ISO (Irving 8-23) and have made Clay Thompson into an all NBA defender in two games.
3. The Warriors rely a lot on their perimeter players (small ball) to get baskets. The Cavs perimeter defenders outside of LeBron are average at best (Irving,Korver,JR)
4. The Celtics have played the Warriors very tough in the past three seasons.

was thinking the same thing....Ty Lue and his coaching staff are a Finals mess, running around like a bunch of headless chickens.

Stevens has the beat GSW plan down--and C's are not afraid to play them.

Match ups is really true...Cavs have 3 WASHED UP players in Korver, Jefferson and Williams, trying to play defense---where our guys like Bradley, Smart and Crowder defend the W's pretty well.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

The team that kicked our tails is getting it's tail kick just as bad as what they did to us. And we wouldn't have I.T right now. So my answer is a big fat no.
 I don't think it's green shades. I think it's green blinders.

Probably not, even if the Celtics were healthy.  We do match up a little better vs. Golden State than we do Cleveland, but we struggled in the 1st two rounds before getting blown away in round 3, and it's tough for me to think we are better suited than the Cavs to face the Warriors, even if we are better suited to face the Warriors than we are to face the Cavs.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Probably not.

When we've won against GSW these past two seasons, Durant has not played. Since people are now seriously considering whether or not he is better than Lebron, the fact that he was not there cannot be overstated.

Perhaps the addition of Hayward could help make up the difference, but [to state the obvious] Hayward is not Durant.

Too early for this thread.

Cavs came back from 3-1 last year.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

This year the Warriors added the best player in the world.

I don't know exactly why, and understand those that disagree, but I say yes.

We have no one to handle Durant and their smallball group murders ours. Same problems we faced against Cleveland, only without a good place to hide IT defensively.  It would be humiliating.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler
