I think those saying adding Lebron doesn't make us better than current day Cleveland and can't beat GSW are mistaken. Boston adding Lebron gives us:

IT/Smart
Bradley/Fultz
Crowder/Brown
Lebron/Yabu
Horford/Zizic

And some ring chasers on small contracts. The difference between this team and the Cavs is that we have excellent perimeter defenders that we can throw against teams, Cleveland really doesn't. We also have a motion offense and great passing which Cleveland sorely lacks. They iso way to much.

As for being able to beat GSW, the current Boston team has shown over the kast two years that they play the style of defense that gives the Dubs fits. Add Lebron's defense and I think the teams would be fairly well matched.

Yes.

Then use the draw of Lebron to fill the rest of the holes.

Not as offensively talented as the current Cavs team, but probably better suited to go at the Warriors because of the defensive talent (especially on the outside)

We won't have Fultz or Brown. The thread title states that we're trading Brown and the '17 Nets and '18 Nets picks.

No. He's still good enough to win the East, but maybe not the NBA Finals against GS. Plus, he can't have too many more really good years. I'd rather build for the long term.

Absolutely not, because Lebron wouldn't be enough for us to beat GSW.

Horford + IT isn't an upgrade over Irving and Love. If Lebron, playing some of his best basketball, isn't nearly enough with those guys, what good would he do us with a lesser cast around him? We'd get to the finals, and get steamrolled just like CLE is now.

And as someone mentioned above, few things in sports are better than watching your team build a contender. I believe we got the 1st big piece of that puzzle last year in JB, and we'll get another piece in 2 weeks. Could that strategy fail? Sure it could. But if we draft well, and Fultz is the player I believe him to be, we're a long way towards building a legit contender. OTOH, I don't think that Lebron, or George, or Butler, or Hayward makes us a contender. Adding one of those guys makes us a better team, but wouldn't be enough to beat the GSW juggernaut.

IMO, the only acquisition that would make us a true contender would be Kevin Durant. Not only is Durant among the best 2 or 3 players in the league, getting him also would severely weaken GSW. But failing that, I don't see a way to get to a title anytime soon. So I would preach patience, the draft, and youth.
those 2 alone, no they are not better than Kyrie and Love combined but not too far off.  what the C's DO have is a deeper team that can throw a number of defenders at the 1-3 positions at Curry, Klay and Durant.  Cleveland doesn't really have that.

one other thing to consider, the god-awful start the C's had in the playoffs would probably be less likely to happen with Lebron on the team telling off his teammates if they started out with their collective heads up the butts.  it's not a guarantee but I can't see Lebron putting up with that for very long.

I don't agree that GS is invincible. They look that way if you try to match up with their big 4, because you can count on one hand the players in the NBA that are that good. But they have 3 areas you can attack them:

Their guards don't have elite speed and quickness
There are a some bigs in the league that can over-power Draymond
Their bench will deteriorate in the next year or two

IMO Horford's legs are going to be too old after next season for him to contribute at a level in order to produce a chip....
Brown+ Fultz+ another top 4 pick in 2018
4
Lebron

It would never happen anyway.

I'm not sure...I think Horford might actually age well. His game was never based on speed or athleticism. Just high IQ, passing, and an above average post game. I think he can play well until at least 33 or 34.

I hate Lebron

But if I'm DA, I do this trade. The Cavs team is a fringe playoff team without LBJ, possibly even #9 or 10. Yes, the Pacers or Bulls led by the lowly George and Butler would outdo Kyrie and Love's team. Put Lebron on this team and I think we win a ring. Imagine subbing out Amir Johnson or Kelly Olynyk with Lebron James. Are you f* kidding me?

IT/Bradley/Crowder/LBJ/Horford with Smart, Olynyk, Rozier, Green, whatever ring chaser depth we can get, and 3 referees is a contender. Then package Bradley, Crowder, and an unprotected 1st rounder for a guy like George and all of a sudden, you get IT/Smart/PG/LBJ/Horford.

Don't tell me that's not a contender.

Man, this is tough.  If it was Lebron two years ago, I'd say yes absolutely.  My two concerns are:

Lebron's age.  Is he going to be the best player in the NBA over the next 3 years, has Durant eclipsed him in these past 2 games?  When we traded for KG, he was 31 years old and we got 3 excellent years out of him, and still another 2 very good ones.  This would be acquiring a 33 year old Lebron (next season) which is a bit older.

The dominance of GSW.  The KG trade made Boston the title favorites at that time as there was no really dominant team in the NBA.  Even then, we only got 1 ring out of it.  This hypothetical trade would not make us title favorites.  So the idea that it would "guarantee" us a ring I think is false.

But this youth movement doesn't guarantee us any titles either.  Very tough decision.  Gun to my head.... I say... No.  Keep building until GSW breaks up.

I don't think GSW is invincible either, but considering that their best competition this year is a very flawed CLE team, then they might as well be. If Kawhi Leonard was to get a running mate anywhere near comparable to what Curry and Lebron have, then I think we'd be asking who would be able to dethrone SA.

Not that any of us will ever have an opportunity to show we're right, but I think the notion that over the course of a series Curry & Thompson wouldn't light up our guards is nonsense. Anyone with a pulse can score on IT, and Bradley was next to helpless against Irving at times. Were it possible to clone Lebron and put one of him on the Celtics, the Cavs would still have the best player on the floor not named Lebron, and the slight edge in depth we have likely wouldn't overcome that.

I wouldn't take LeBron if he came for free.

People on here are weird. We've battled so much with LeBron's teams over the years. This would be like the Knicks trading for Jordan near the end of his career. No way. No ****ing way.

Love Jaylen, but if anyone says 'no' to this, they need to be banned from this site  :P
I think a lot more people will say no to this than you might expect

Yeah but I mean, if it almost guarantees you like 2 titles (which it should), why not?

Isn't that the goal. Championships? Plus I'm sure "ring-chasers" come over which helps a ton.
With 18 votes in, 41% say no.   ;)

i am one of those ;)

Me too.

Never adhered to the "if you can't beat 'em, join'em" mindset.

It's extremely distasteful to me.

I want us to beat his ass....not have him join us.

TPs for each of you.  I simply cannot understand how any Celtic fan could ever stomach the sight of Lebron in green.  Barf.  Signing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle last summer was bad enough, lol ;D.

As for Jaylen Brown, I'd trade him to the Nets for Caris LeVert.

Thats a team that is a contender for 3 years and has the perimeter defense to go against GSW. Also, imagine Lebron in Stevens offense with his passing ability. A lot less iso ball for Lebron and not having to play 40 MPG would make Lebron much more rested by playoff time.

I do this trade in a second.

That team is not even as good as the current Cavs. Lebron wouldnt want to do that anyways. Why leave a good situation at the mid-tail end of ur career with Kyrie n Love around you to a team with a 5'7" PG and an aging Horford who cant protect the rim ?

Id stop watching the Celtics if Ainge traded all that for Lebron
