i would love to resign AB to 18-20 mil per season so he and Fultz and Smart and Rozier can be the rotation for the future.

Biggest concern about IT is the lenth of the contact. IT deserves 30 mil per season but 5 years? I don't think he will age very well. Iverson was still good scorer in Denver but he wasn't the killer he was in Philly. So i think IT has 2 more great years and after that he will be just a solid scoring PG but not a superstar

AB will get more than 18-20 million. Like a lot more.

Iverson took 0 care of his body and didnt plan for longevity. Iverson admitted to not lifting weights, and he played in a much more physical era. Thomas is much stronger than Iverson and is already obsessed with extending his career by any means necessary, he hired a sleep consultant in the same vein as Tom Brady. He could EASILY outlast Iverson.

AB because I think he''ll be just a little bit cheaper.  And even if he isn't, I am very hesitant about paying IT.  Size and age are concerns of course.  But mostly, I simply do not know how well he would play with others.

And look at it this way, the IT that scores nearly 30 a game is probably worth the max.  But if we're going to become a true contender, we'll need to acquire more offensive talent.  That mean's that IT's scoring will inevitably go down.  If we acquire a dominant star (however that happens), IT scoring could go down a lot (say around 20-22 ppg).

So is THAT Isaiah Thomas worth the max?  Can we put up with his other issues when IT is not scoring all the points?  I say no.  I think in an ideal world IT is in fact a sixth man that isn't getting paid max money.

A couple of things:

First, if I had to sleep in Tom Brady's situation, I'd be up all night, sleep consultant or no sleep consultant.  It's good to be Tom Brady.

Second, I'd swap Brown for Smart as part of the guard rotation, rather than as a SF.  In that case we are even more loaded at guard, but actually have some size.

Third, we really need to wait and see because we have supremely talented young players on rookie deals, and could have 3/4 of rotation guards on rookie deals in 18-19 in Fultz, Rozier, and Brown. I'm excited to see how that group looks after 82 games together. We will know better whether we need veteran scoring or veteran defense, and can go either way. Or decide to spend the money at another position.

IT4 is a polarizing player because:

1) We'll never win a championship with him as a starter
2) You'll be criticized if you bring him off the bench
3) You'll be criticized if you trade him
4) You'll be tortured if you stay the course

IT4 is the Marty Schottenheimer of the NBA. No matter what you do with him, it will always be looked at as a head scratcher. Sports are played for champions to be made.

So you can't hide a top 3-5 NBA scorer on defense? GS is definitely hiding Curry.

Lol, yep. It always repeats the same loops as well.

"IT is a far better player, yet AB would likely demand less money" which is then countered by "Have you seen the recent contracts players have been getting? George Hill is supposedly expecting near max money" and it goes on and on.

At the end of the day, it's IT.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

It depends on how much you have to hide that player on defense. IT4 needs to be hidden a lot more than Curry does.

A few more ECF losses and we can be the Buffalo Bills of the NBA Eastern Conference.
