Loving this kid's attitude. Don't trade him, Danny!

In all the excitement we haven't talked much about Jaylen's playing time next year. If we sign Hayward, draft Fultz, and keep Thomas/Crowder/Bradley, there won't be a lot of minutes to go around at SG/SF. What if Brown starts pushing for more regular time with a second year leap?

Here's a quote from the article:

Quote
“Jaylen came right into my office and said, ‘I’m playing this summer,’ ” Ainge said. “And I said, ‘OK, tell me what’s on your mind.’ And he pretty much just said, ‘Because I don’t want anybody to even think that I’m not ready right now. I’m ready to play and I’m ready to win.’

“He emphasized the point of now. He doesn’t want us thinking he’s two or three years away. He wants to be included in our plans this very minute. Of course he is, but it just tells you a little bit about Jaylen. He wants to be great.”

Jaylen was my binkie last year before the draft, and that's before I knew what a competitor he is. Does that mean he'll end up a star for sure? No, but he certainly has the right attitude and that's half the battle. As for playing time that is the one problem with the win now and later approach. Playing Crowder may be best for winning next year (at least to start) but if your goal is to win in 2020 and beyond playing Jaylen and giving him a bigger role is probably better. Over all I think there's a good chance that Jaylen himself solves the problem by being good enough next year that Stevens has to play him. I also this its pretty unlikely that we go into next ear with Fultz/Hayward without shipping out one of Bradley, Smart, Crowder ect. Depth is good, but too much of it and guys start losing value.

I also think he's ready to play. I understand why the Celtics brought him along the way they did this season and, long term, it's probably the right strategy but I also hope that next season he gets more time and a little more leeway on the court to be more aggressive and more creative.

Yep, I believe he is. If we trade Bradley, JB should start at the 2.

He may start at the two anyway.  There were a bunch of games he started at the two with Bradley and Smart both active this past season.  It was at the end of the season when we went on a winning streak and took the top seed.

I predict the Celtics DO NOT sign Hayward.  According to the rules, he can make more money/years by resigning with the Jazz, who are a playoff team with a number of other good young players.  Hayward has started a family, quality of life is good in Salt Lake.

I really hope Jaylen leapfrogs Crowder as a starting SF. Crowder is a more than decent player so for JB to get his spot means he's got something special in his sophomore year.

Jaylen has all the right tools to become a star in this league. He's incredibly athletic, has a will to win, and has his head in the right place. That is a rare combination and one that will make him a star player. He could become great too. The guy has the ability to get by any defender and once he combines this with a tighter handle and a deadly jumper-look out!

they need to make some moves this summer.  it's time.  crowder needs to go for sure.  let jaylen play. let fultz play.  even if it means taking a small step back.

I sure hope he "resigns" with the Jazz!

This has been covered before, but the money should not be that much different. The reason being Hayward could get a 3 year + option and be a free agent again when he's 30 years old. Then he will be a 10-year player and can sign a new contract for an even bigger max deal.

The whole 5th year and extra overall money was supposed to keep players on their original teams, but the problem is some of the ones who will take advantage of it are older ones (e.g. Chris Paul, 32 years old) or the ones that are concerned about their own potential for injury (e.g. Blake Griffin).

The effect is that any player who you would really want to sign to that five-year deal, for example stars with clean injury histories and still in their prime during the five years, might be better served signing short-term deals and getting raises as opposed to being locked into a 5-year deal. And players you DON'T feel comfortable signing to a 5-year deal are probably asking for it.

Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?

No doubt.

However, this in part, depends upon where a given player thinks the salary cap is going.  Will it continue to rise at the rate of the last 2 years? If you think the cap will rise at a lower pace, or not at all, you may be better off financially by signing a longer term deal now rather than risk injury in Year 3 of a 3-year deal which would limit the size of the subsequent late-career deal.

I believe a graduated amount of minutes is the perfect way for rookies to be introduced to NBA
there is so much going on for these kids
-i think it is detrimental to their progress with the number of games ,the speed and height, the strength and the travel to be just thrown in.
The effect on jaylen left him successful and hungry and ready for the next step
the playoff experience and winning vs years spent losing with little veteran leadership and the blend of youth ,coaching and defensive focus of celts. The rise of marcus rozier, jaylen is no mistake
 now it is fultz turn
Imagine fultz and jaylen are 19 and 20 that becomes an abstract number
-i think jaylen said from high schools to NBA playoffs in two years.

If you get paid 30+ million a year to play basketball, I bet quality of life is pretty awesome no matter where you live. 8)

I hope so too.. but knowing how crowder complains at times.. I think in that scenario he needs to be traded at the dealine.

What if we sign Hayward though?
