I've woken up in cold sweats thinking about losing out on Jayson Tatum (I believe he is the next Klay Thompson). I think taking him at #1 is a tiny bit of a reach given the separation Fultz has created. And I think trading out of 1 (in the process losing Fultz) is too risky. But I also don't want to lose Tatum.

So here is my proposed draft day trade.

Boston trades: Marcus Smart + 2019 1st Round Pick
Sacramento trades: Willy Cauley-Stein + 2017 Pick #5

This trade is conditional on Tatum falling to pick 5. We pick our 2 guard horse to bet on as Avery Bradley (he has earned it), receive a big in the process and a future stud SF in Tatum. Sacramento might require addl assets in this trade.

Smart was a HUGE part of the C's showing some life last night. He told Horford to check Love and he'd take Thompson, and it worked.

Smart shouldn't get traded unless its for a legit proven star.

I don't think SAC goes for that.

I totally disagree with this pov. Marcus is a key player and one I would love to have but I don't believe him to be indispensable. Offensively, he is limited and he will command a large contract following his rookie scale contract.

I agree Sac might not bite. But there are plenty of resources to sweeten it for them. Rights to Yabusele, addl Picks, etc.*

*Disclaimer: I'm not suggesting include all of these for your savages who will tear me apart.

If you're going after both Fultz and Tatum, then you should move on from IT and Horford and just go all in on the young rebuild.

Tatum and Brown will play the same position. I don't think Tatum is big enough to play PF next to Horford. And I like Brown more than Tatum. And WCS had a nice end of the season, but I don't know if he really fits, at least on the offensive end in CBS's style of play.

Plus Smart is the closest thing we have to a KG type in getting guys going. IT doesn't do it, Horford doesn't do it. You needs guys like that, and they are rare.

It would be better to move pieces like AB or Crowder, Young, Yabu,Zizic other picks, for Dieng and thier pick. Mini needs some defensive vets for Tibs coaching style. Pick up Luri Markkanen who would be a better fit in Stevens style. Dieng would start until MArkkanen is ready and would be a great back up big with a cap friendly contract.

Then you could have cap after some more moves for Hayward. And in years you could have a core of Smart/Fultz/Brown/Markkanen to take over.  And what ever the 2018 gets ya.

Now I would move Smart, but it would have to be for a legit guy. Tatum and WCS are not legit, not yet, so you're making a move crossing your fingers hoping it pans out in 3 to 4 years.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
At least you aren't including the '17 #1 pick so kudos to you for that.

But I agree, I can't see Sacramento being all that interested in this deal. Fox is pretty much an ideal fit for them.

The only way Sacramento even considers making that trade is if you substitute the 2019 first round pick (which will probably be in the 25-29 range) for the rights to Brooklyn's 2018 pick.

Wait, you think Sacramento will give you Cauley-Stein AND a lottery pick for Marcus Smart? My oh my.
