Less than 24 hours after inadvertently helping the Boston Celtics land the No. 1 overall selection in the 2017 NBA draft, Paul Pierce said he wants his former team to move the pick.

"You trade this pick, because he (Markelle Fultz) cannot help the Celtics get over the top. The window is now," Pierce said Wednesday on ESPN's The Jump (h/t Chris Walder of The Score).

"You're a 50-win team, you're the No. 1 seed. You have to build on this momentum. If you can acquire a Paul George, Jimmy Butler, or Gordon (Hayward) from Utah, you have to do it."

The Celtics won the lottery Tuesday night with a Brooklyn Nets pick acquired when Pierce and Kevin Garnett were traded to Brooklyn in 2013. Pierce played one season with the Nets before leaving as a free agent, and the deal is already considered one of the worst in NBA history.

I disagree with him, but thought it was something worth posting, and I feel PP34 should have a say in this, because he did "leave us with this parting gift (and Brown)"  ;D

I don't think Pierce realizes Hayward is likely an upcoming FA though unless he is confident Hayward stays and is in an All-NBA team (aka HUGE extension coming up for him to stay in Utah), but even then I highly doubt he gets traded. He either stays in Utah or opts-out and signs elsewhere.

It all depends on how you feel about Fultz. Do you think Fultz has the potential to be an MVP caliber player? If he does, I say you don't trade the pick for anything less than an MVP-level talent in return.

If you're not as high on Fultz (or anyone else in the draft) then trade the thing.

TP for posting - I was watching The Jump (or whatever the show was) when he said that. I don't agree with him either. If we are able to lure Hayward, then I think we just need to run it back with him and Fultz (minus Bradley, unfortunately).

If we are able to get A. Davis, then, sure, of course. But not for Butler or one-year of George. This is like a dream come true for Cs fans.

Fultz is going to make an impact starting from day 1. Sorry Paul we're not trading a generational talent

Hayward + Fultz

That would be amazing. Adding two more legit scorers to this team.

Seems like a lot of players besides Pierce also think they should trade it.

I would agree, but I think he has to improve up front further with a veteran banger to go with Horford. There are no assurances with Zizic and Yab. They need an inside guy to police the basket.

Yeah, upgrade at the 4 is needed.

Thompson is one thing, but even Love is feasting against the C's.

Horford I expect will improve, he just had a real bad night but has been sensational in the playoffs overall though.
