We are one 6 ft 7 type wing scorer and a quality PF away from really making a run at a title. How can the guys we have now and the fans living in the now for that matter, not expect to see us get Butler or George with this pick.

Now I'm not saying we have to trade it, but what if can sell Griffin or Milsap on coming here in FA? Do we copy the Cavs in 2015 and promise them a trade for one of the wings I mentioned?

It's going to be painful to have a good team and not use big assets to further it in the immediate future.

I think signing a free agent like Griffin and keeping our picks solve both scenarios. The future will be built on Brown, Fultz, Zizic and the current built around IT, Griffin, Horford.

By all means we can resign Olynyk or just sign a guy like JaMychal Green in FA to fill the PF hole if no max guy signs with us. Also we can always trade for Carmelo to fill our PF spot if KO gets too expensive and Green resigns with Memphis. Then we can sign a guy like Ilyasova for depth with the room exception.
Lineup:
IT Fultz Jackson
Bradley Smart Nader
Crowder Brown Green (vet min)
Melo Ilyasova Yabusele
Horford Zizic O'Quinn
(Trade for Melo is somewhere along the lines of Memphis pick+Rozier+a couple of second rounders for Melo and O'Quinn)
I think this puts us right at the cap (it's possible) and I think this team is a contender with its depth and quality.
THIS IS ASSUMING MELO IS OK WITH PLAYING TEAM BALL AND DEFENSE THOUGH.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Since Fultz is talented enough to play significant minutes his rookie year, problem solved!

It's true that they do need another big, preferably someone like Millsap that can do multiple things well. Hayward improves the team but doesn't help so much in that area.

I know that people are going to say "Julius Randle" right now but it's too late for that. It's true that the lineup would work out a lot better right now with him instead of Smart, but it was hard to know that 3 years ago.

I don't know, there isn't any obvious solution. Millsap is just too old and they have to use the cap space on somebody or they will waste it. I don't like Griffin and he may have injury issues so that's not a solution in my eyes either.

It's not hard to balance both.

Keep Fultz. Sign Hayward. Keep KO. Bring in Zizic and Nader. Add somebody with the 4.3 million room exception.

That satisfies the present. For the future, you develop Fultz, Brown, Zizic and the 2018 Nets pick.

I have never believed in rebuilding while remaining competitive, but Danny seems to have pulled it off.

I would absolutely keep the pick and take Fultz.

I think the C's might have a hard time getting a max free agent, but if we can add one with just cap space to help the short term I would be all for it.

I think a big could come via trade.  I would love to see Larry Nance Jr.  Not an all star but he can rebound and brings some much needed athleticism to the front court.  Also on a rookie deal.

This is my dream off-season, and step 1 is already complete. Now we just need Hayward to play ball, and it's a wrap.

One word...difficult

Hayward will need to sign for a little less than max... maybe trade crowder, ab

Dannys head may explode....it will be difficult for him to trade someone like AB (or even Rozier)

Let JJ, Amir, Green, and Young walk. Draft Fultz. Bring in Zizic, Yabu, and Nader.

Hope IT, Bradley, Crowder, and Horford can maintain their play, Smart and Olynyk get incrementally better (or at least a year smarter) and Jaylen Brown takes a step forward.

That team has too many guards so there would have to be a trade. Target a veteran PF with a package the moves some guards (which players, exactly, would depend on just how good of a PF was available).

It's not as flashy as getting that max free agent but I think that team is better than this year's team and maintains a bright, bright future. Of course, it means betting on young guys developing which is never guaranteed and it's a future that involves a lot of tough contract decisions about Thomas, Bradley, and Smart (unless one of them goes in a trade) but I guess I'm OK with a wait and see approach there.

probably the likeliest of best case scenarios.  of course it all depends on signing Hayward.

If able to sign Hayward, I'd be fine with using Crowder, Rozier and non-Nets 2018 pick to bring in a solid big man to start with Al.  I don't think it's realistic to expect Zizic to make a big impact right away or play major minutes.  not sure if it's even feasible to retain KO and sign Hayward due to the cap.

From what I have read I believe the only way the Cs can sign Hayward (or any other max FA) is to trade AB or Smart and not retain KO and Zeller. I personally believe the following plan is the best way to compete now while building for the post lebron future.

1. Draft Fultz, in 2nd round draft 3 players who agree to compete in camp for the 2 new half nba / half g-league contracts

2. Trade AB+ Mickey + future lottery protected 1st for Carmel Anthony

3. Resign KO, Sign Zizic, Yabu, and Nader

4. Offer Amir, Gerald and JJ 1+1 team option deals

2017/18 Roster

IT, Fultz, Rozier, Jackson
Smart, Green
Crowder, Brown
Melo, KO, JJ, Yabu
Horford, Zizic, Amir

Rotation

PG IT 32min, Fultz 16min
SG Smart 30min, Fultz 12min, Brown 6min
SF Crowder 32min, Brown 16min
PF Melo 32min, KO 16min
C Horford 32min, Zizic 16min

This isn't perfect and Rozier needs to be figured out. He has earned minutes but they are not available. He may need to be traded and vet guard brought in on a  1 year deal.

Long term this rotation gives solid minutes to Fultz, Brown, Zizic and Smart. These 4 along with the 18 Nets pick will form the core of the Cs future. This future foundation has excellent position size and athletic ability at each position.

Carmelo Anthony is a malcontent. No way I'd invest a pick, a worthwhile player, or a significant contract in him.

I do not believe the Cs can sign KO and Hayward. Signing Hayward would also involve moving Smart or AB.

I just realized that Fultz doesn't turn 19 (!) until the week before Memorial Day (!!!). That's a lot of future right there.

Also, that plan sounds great, but you'll have to get rid of either Bradley or Crowder to make the numbers work... which means you'll have a 20-year old, or Marcus Smart starting. Not optimal.
