So I turn on First Take (forgive me) and what is the first topic?  Not the Celtics and their great victory.  The subject is "What did this game do to Wall's legacy?"

WHAT?!?!?!

I don't watch for the same reason but ultimately the casual viewer is more interested in the Wall headline.  It's hard to bash ESPN because Celtics fans are going to stick with our local media.  We are absolutely spoiled when it comes to local coverage.  The national headlines are irrelevant.

Wall was the most decorated player in the series, if not the best, and he failed miserably in the 4th quarter of a game in which his team was eliminated and in the game until the 4th.  After a lower round series, the talk is often on the losing team immediately before spending the next couple of days talking about the series and then the next week + analyzing the series.

Typical.  Just further hammers in what IT and the team has said, which is that we are viewed as the underdogs and almost lucky to be there.  We will keep proving them wrong.

For what it's worth, Kenny Smith seems to consistently praise us and like us on TNT.  We get a lot of good analysis and coverage from him.

If it makes you feel better ESPN is hurting in the ratings, they are losing money and Disney is looking to unload the network.  Espn use to be good, now it has lost it's way and the ratings and revenue prove it.

dropped my directv package to the bottom package which doesn't offer ESPN.  haven't missed it until the C's games this series that they broadcast and the lottery tonight.

don't miss it but ticked my only option for those games was a really crappy stream on line

To be fair, the show was probably locked in on the topic after Wall's game 6 performance.

I was going to mention this yesterday, but did not want to jinx anything. Going into the game last night, I was hoping that winning game 6 on their home court would have been Washington's "victory" in this series. I had the impression that they were more concerned about not losing at home, than winning the series. It was almost as if Wall was satisfied with his game 6 winning shot. At one point in the fourth quarter, I was wondering why Wall wasn't playing, but then it occurred to me that he was on the floor the whole time. Yes, it was the Beal show in the fourth, but Wall may as well have been on the bench.

He and Beal were completely worn out at the end. I don't know the exact numbers but they logged a staggering amount of court time in the series. You're hard pressed to recall a time when they weren't out there, either separately or together. As you mention, it may have taken a greater toll on Wall. Brooks didn't have much of a choice, though. The Wiz aren't very good when they are not on the floor, either separately or together.

They were panning the Wiz bench during a timeout in the fourth last night. It was obvious how exhausted they both were, just tapped out. You could see it in their faces. I almost felt sorry for them. The outcome was still somewhat in doubt. That's when I knew the Cs were moving on.

Terrific players, both of them, obviously. They're not underpaid, but they are surely overworked. They're going to need a lot more help going forward if the Wiz want to build on the success they enjoyed this year. If they do, you can see the makings of a fun rivalry with the Celtics over the next few years.

I was impressed with the way Morris and, if I'm not mistaken, Beal, came over to congratulate Kelly as he was being interviewed post-game by Dave Aldridge. Maybe some of it was playing to the audience at home, but you could still see the genuine respect that flowed between the players. Nice moment.

Of course, there was no sign of the other Kelly, Kelly Oubre.:)

No ESPN is dying and sucks because they inexplicably decided to stop showing sports highlights and instead have talking heads debate one barely sports related topic for 7 minutes.

I didn't even mind first take initially as a change of pace, but when the entire network became that I shut it off.

First take is a joke.  Stephen A Smith is a joke.  Maybe 20% of what comes out of his mouth actually makes any sense, if that.

He's an overzealous fanboy who constantly makes biased predictions/arguments based on nothing but his own emotional bias.

He's also got the whiniest and most annoying voice in the history of 'journalism'  (and I use that term loosely).

Why is this a shock?

Wall is being pushed as the 2nd best player in the East after Lebron.

Wall no showed the end of the game.  (great defense, but most stars still find a way to impact the game positively for their team)

Wall and the Wizards topic goes away in a day when all the talk shifts to the teams left.

Same thing happened after the Clippers lost.   Are they going to break up the team?

And the Rockets with Harden "quitting"

This isn't disrespect for the winners.   This is these media outlets understanding that it brings ratings.

As for ESPN's former highlight model, doesn't work so well anymore with those plastered all over the internet.  I hate a lot of the "hot take" on TV.

Wall doesn't have a "legacy" yet. He might play another decade.

Maybe there's a debate about why Wall faded in Games 4 and 7 (hint: because he carries the team), but his legacy can't be predicted yet.

Anyway, I agree that the media in general is obsessed with "hot takes" over substance and analysis.

THIS is why ESPN sucks? It'd probably take me an entire week to list out every reason why ESPN sucks.

ESPN and the taking heads screaming and howling about who has the best hair in the NBA for over 30 minutes, or which NBA City has the best food.

Untalented children, I'll pass... ESPN is terrible!
