I don't think it's fair to push the tape back as the season progresses...

Thoughts going into this season...

52+ wins (Success)

Get out of the first round (Success)

Take care of business against Brooklyn to ensure best pick possible (Success)

Other things the Celtics achieved this year that nobody expected going into the season...

1st seed (Success)

Field an MVP level player on the roster (Success)

Only in Boston journalism could you be a 1st seed, improve upon the team from last year, and have the best chance at the #1 pick in the upcoming draft and think it's arguable the season was a failure...

Exactly

Depends on yous starting point.  At the start of the season, no one, including me, thought we could end up as the #1 seed.  But either way, failure is too strong of a word.  I don't really think the Celts are the better team (I'd say they're even) so losing in seven games would be disappointing as a team, but that a disappointment as a team.

I seriously doubt that. There might be a vocal few but my guess is the large majority of Celtics fans(and I mean Celtic fans not CB posters) will be disappointed the season is over but look towards hope with the lottery the next day and a very important off season coming.

If this team had Cousins, Game 1 of ECF would be tonight at Boston instead of a Game 7. Lets be real.

Of course. And a Celtic fan. But I am not calling for Ainge's firing because he didn't trade for Cousins. That's ridiculous, IMHO. And I feel the vast majority of fans feel the same way.

Cousins is the 1 thing that would give us a legit margin over GSW and CLE in a 7 game series. IMO, we can't beat GSW/Cavs 1-4 but we can exploit their weakness at the 5 with Cousins.

Does not matter though bc we don't have him.

Yeah, Cousins literally fills every remaining need this team has:

- #2 Scorer (Check)
- Rebounder (Check)
- Interior Presence (Check)
- Defense (Mostly Check)

At least with Cousins I doubt the likes of Gortat and Lopez could grab so many offensive boards over him.

Going into the season, I would a large majority of C's fans believed a successful season would be the below:

1. Crack 50 wins
2. Be a top 3 team in the East
3. Advance past first round in playoffs

Basically,  take a step forward and show improvement. You can argue the C's overachieved by getting the first seed. Might have created unrealistic expectations as result of the seeding.

Overall, this season is progress so it's a plus in my book, regardless if they win tonight or not. Obviously I'd like to advance but we knew this team had flawsome pretty much from the get go.

I disagree. I expected the Cs would be the 3rd best team, get out of the 1st round, compete in the 2nd round, and end up with a top 5 pick. Ended up as top seed and will get a top 4 pick. I don't think IT4 is playing his best under the burden he's carrying and we've still made the 7th game.

This and 'attitude' were the question marks

Is Cousins willing to fight through the pnr? Willing to extend out to the perimeter to contest shots..

Just getting out of the first round would have been a success last year.

Getting dispatched by the Wizards, a team proven significantly inferior to you during the regular season, and on your home court to boot -- no way this could be anything but a disappointment.
