Some players aren't built for competition and agents are always looking out for what's best for their clients. So some agents will want to stir their players to certain clubs.

Which is how you get these teams with a stack of allegedly 'great' young talent who wind up in the lottery year after year.

Anyone who thinks we are loaded at four, is delusional and needs on psych meds.
Yeah, but if I'm an agent I might still not want my guy competing needlessly with Yab or maybe Zizic or Horford.  Plus KO could come back

This is the most asinine article I have read in a while. First, I dont believe the article. Second, the theme of the article is that the agents would rather their player get drafted to a team that sucks so that the kid can get to play on a bad team. The agent is also worried that since Boston is loaded they may draft their client only to trade him to one of those bad teams that the agent prefers anyway. What a crock of dung.

Agents trying to pump up their own value. Only so much they can actually do for their clients with the draft and rookie scale.

Anyone here live through the Brian Shaw fiasco?

I did and the agent was a moron. Cost Shaw some good money too. And he still had to come play in Boston.

Oh boy yes. Interesting the C's had to sue someone to enforce a player contract. FIBA changed their rules after this too, right?

Don't remember FIBA changing the rules but I was a lot younger then and didn't pay attention to those things.

Yeah I went in the army and lost touch. No internet and all that.

I think Shaw was under contract and went to Italy for a year before the court enforced the NBA terms, but he might've just been picked and the C's had the exclusive rights to sign him. It's all a bit foggy there.

Anyway, so much for young players paying dues in their profession.

Didn't this happen to us with Jon Barry? Didn't he hold out because he didn't want to play for us? I don't remember all the details.

Agent has a fiduciary responsibility to get his client the highest value. Obviously, client will be overjoyed to be drafted by a top organization like the Celtics and....oh lookee here, get paid millions and millions of dollars by a top organization.

So Mr. agent? You want your 19 year old client to start next year and get clocked night in and night out? Lose over and over again?

Avery Bradley fought his way onto the team. Learned to play the right way and is now one of the better two's in the league, not to mention probably, one player most coaches want on the court in a playoff game.

Why would an agent want that?

Brown has got a ways to go and he is working with the right people to get him there.

Your client might get traded? What!? Pretty much everybody gets traded.

"We don't want to get traded to the wrong team."

Take your 3% of the mountain of money your client makes and shut up.

Anyone have a feeling this is an agent from Ball Sports group? I find it hard that ITs friend from washington Fultz would have problems getting playing time. Maybe josh Jackson's agent but I doubt it. Plus lavar ball already said something similar where he respects the Celtics but prefers the Lakers  for lonzo

I was like ten years old and I remember the buzz in Europe because Il Messaggero di Roma signed Brian Shaw and Danny Ferry above NBA offers. Their money was like one million dollars apiece for this season, which was HUGE money even for NBA standards.

Obviously, I can't remember any legal details.

What the hell is the agent even talking about?

I believe it is more about attending private workouts and sharing information.  A lot of scouting occurs between now and the NBA draft, and I think the Cs value the private workouts more than most teams.

An agent can very easily say "no" to that.
You might be on to something.  Of course, it may not make much of a difference.

The full Chad Ford quote:

Quote
• The Kings aren't the only team that agents are avoiding this year. Several agents told me that they were considering holding their clients out of workouts with the Boston Celtics as well. The Celtics currently have the best odds of winning the No. 1 pick, and unlike the Kings, they have one of the most respected front offices and coaching staffs in the league.

What gives?

The Celtics are loaded with players at every position. The fear is that -- much like No. 3 pick Jaylen Brown saw this year -- their clients would have to spend the next few years coming off the bench. That's not what most top prospects in the draft want. They want a chance to start and lead a franchise right away.

"I have deep respect for the Celtics," one agent said. "They may have the best GM and head coach in the league. But I'd have to understand what the plan would be for my client before I let them come. They are loaded at every position. There's a real danger that they take a player and either he plays a limited role [off] the bench, or he becomes an asset to be traded to a situation that we're uncomfortable with. It's tough."

Don't expect this to bother the Celtics much. They have one of the best scouting staffs in the league.

Doesn't bother me much either.

Has Ainge managed to give any of his draft picks a max deal after their rookie scale deals yet?

I think that's what agents are likely worried about. They know their guys will get top 4 rookie scale deals, it's the playing time and exposure during those years that results in the following contract that they are worried about.

Even so, there's not much they can do about it. We can draft whoever we want, and they have to play for us.
