"We'd like him to have success,"Jackson said during a break in the action at the NBA draft combine. "The opportunity is narrowing. We'd just like him to have success somewhere. We're not going to be there. Hopefully, we'll be maybe a playoff team next year. It would be tough to consider us a possible champion."

Jackson remains optimistic about the Knicks' chances in Tuesday's NBA draft lottery.

"We want to get the first pick," Jackson said. "So we're rooting for those little balls."

Title is a little misleading. He is basically saying what has been known for months. They want to win the lottery and want to trade Melo. I look at a team like the Wizards next year to maybe trade some players and a huge pile of picks for Melo.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

If the Wiz intend on keeping Porter, then any trade for Melo has to include Mahinmi. I can't imagine a scenario where the Knicks take on 3 years of Mahinimi at $48M just to 'get rid of' Melo.

At this point, if the Cs do not sign a FA, I think Melo to Boston could be a very real possibility...even probability.

Who knows the NBA gods love NYC.   Phil might even have to guts to coach again, given he only coaches loaded teams.   I hope KP demands a trade and busts his little bubble.

Melo is a huge upgrade over Crowder I'd take him all day

Do you care about defense? .... At all?

If so...how is Melo a HUGE upgrade?

If you offer Crowder and some 2nds for Melo. Phil says yes x100

Not even sure it would take that.

Zeller. a S&T'd KO., our first next year (top 3 protected), some 2nds. he wants his contract gone.

Im willing to take Melo, but not at the cap space he will be eating. Maybe if Phil bought out Melo's contract.

Crowder is probably more valuable just based on contracts.

I dont think wed even need to include Crowder in a Melo trade. I think hes gonna end up going for scraps

I have a feeling Melo can be had surprisingly cheap...It's his contract that is the fly in the ointment for teams not ready to compete for a championship immediately.

Wouldn't it be funny if he ended up in Washington?

This team needs a second scorer Melo would thrive under Brad imo

Not saying I want Crowder gone he should be coming off our bench

2 whole years of Melo.. Sheesh, no way. Maybe as a rental for a playoff run halfway through the 18-19 season...
