Anyone see this quote last night?

"Man, it's a blessing. Who would have thought? Last year I was going into the draft and now I'm here with the Celtics with a chance to close out a game 6 and go to the ECF. I'll take that any day over going to a team and playing 30-35 minutes, whatever the case may be. I'm happy im in a role and contributing to my team."

Holy cow, this dude just turned 20 this year. This is exactly what the guys on KG Area 21 were talking about and what it means to be a Celtics. Sacrifice for the good of the team. I hope this kid is here for a long time.

What's more, he is proving that you can be a rookie and contribute in a winning team...without scoring.

I think he's learning a lot of the small things he needs to know, and the main thing: he's doing it not in the NBA-DL or in practice, but on the court.

TP for the quote.

I hope he makes all-rookie first team.

Brogdan
Hield
Jaylen
Saric
Embiid

Does that work?

I know Jamal Murray, Marquese Chriss, and maybe Whitehead are left out there but...

He's getting valuable experience in games that matter. I think that experience matters for development. No other rookies can really say that outside of Brogdan.

BUT

Man, did he make some silly mistakes in that 2nd half. All part of the process, but the foul on Mahinmi and the 8 second violation were pretty silly.

To illustrate how this would work in the Celtics' favor, let's say they land the #2 pick and Fultz is already off the board. They aren't particularly enamored with Ball, Jackson, or Tatum, and the cost to trade up to get Fultz at #1 is too steep. So they trade back from #2 into the back half of the lottery and target a big, let's say OG Anunoby or Jonathan Isaac, guys who fit the profile of the modern day NBA big man. The asset they pick up in the process can be packaged along with existing assets to go hard at Paul George, Jimmy Butler, or whomever. Or, you save about $2m off the cap (that's the difference in first-year salary between picks 2 and 8, for instance) which helps you sign someone like Gordon Hayward in free agency without having to trade away key guys in your rotation to fit him under the cap.

I think this is a real possibility and wouldn't at all be shocked if Ainge goes that direction.

The most impressive thing about last night is how much he was able to sustain an impact on the game without being a part of the offense. Usually rookies tend to shut it down if they arent feeling it on the offensive end. Huge for his development, because we know with his athleticism is that he is going to be a good offensive player.

Why wouldnt Jaylen stay?

Imo forget about trading for Butler, George. Not going to happen

Better chance for Hayward, Griffin FA additions... Plus Brown, 2017, 2018 nets picks...this club will be be ready for the short term and stacked for the long term

I am looking so forward to the point he improves where he earns the starting role over Crowder (or AB)

I think it probably depends on are success against the Cavs if we make it to that round. For example if we win a couple games and push it to 6 games, or if we lose in 7, that means we're closer to competing for a title than anyone expected. If that's the case, then I could see DA going hard for George/Butler thus having to give up Brown and a Brooklyn pick.

Has either players made the finals?

Has either been able to stop/battle lebron?

I trust george talent over butler but his contract situation is a turn off....

You dont trade the nets pick and brown unless it was for someone like durant, lebron who can almost guarantee you a ring

Brown and 1st (could end up being fultz) could end up being the new warriors of the east....

And also overall cap situation needs to be examined...you cant just trade for butler, extend george, IT4, AB

In todays league you can give 2 guys max max money and 2 other player 65-70 percent max...then the rest will be rookies/vets willing to earn less for a ring

We've watched PG13 battle LeBron a couple times. As for Butler, in the 2014-2015 playoffs LeBron hit a tough buzzer beater against the Bulls to avoid going down 3-1. In those playoffs Butler averaged 22.9/5.6/3.2/2.4 So yeah I would say he has battled LeBron.

As far as did they ever make the finals argument, careful with that one. KG hadn't made the finals yet either when he came here. CP3 has never made the finals, people were trying to get him at one point. I am not too worried about them not being in the finals yet.

Glad to see Jaylen get some run last night and glad to see the team did really well with him on the floor. I think next season, Stevens is going to be able to give him a lot more leash and he'll be able to be more effective scoring with the ball but will also have learned how to play off ball, which is something a lot of NBA players don't seem to ever learn these days.

Love the kid.

KG was a different talent... He was the best pf in the league (or top 3 with nobody standing out)

Right now its Lebron , Durant and close third Leonard... Butler ,George, hayward group come after...

I would be careful to try to "pistons" a way to a ring because it rarely happens

Brown and Fultz could end up being Leonard  , Harden in a few years... You kick yourself in the head for trading these two for butler (not even top 3 sf)
