Yes, Ainge, sell high ................... and blow a title opporunity. That group was supposed to be about a short window to win a couple of titles after the acquisition of Allen and KG in 2007. Sooooooooooooo, that window was still open in 2011, so you go for it.

All the talk about Perkins' decline after leaving Boston is misleading. Of course, he wasn't a great player in OKC. But he was a very good player on that Celtics team because his skills fit perfectly into what they needed. Ainge was so anxious to go quick & small that he jumped the gun and gave up our one advantage over the rest of the league - defense & interior toughness. Replacing Perk with soft Jeff Green just made us another team playing the same style as the others. We lost the edge we had over Miami at that point.

Plus, as you can see from this video, these guys had a special bond that also gave them an advantage. Laugh all you want at the notion, but how do you think Russell and his guys won in '68 & '69 - Guts & Pride Baby !!

The Celtics had Shaq, JO back then. We were already an elite team without Perkins before he came back from injury. Plus the trade brought back another good Big in Krstic. The mistake I think was Ainge thinking Shaq would be healthy by playoffs. I dont think Perkins would make us win the chip that year, but rather on Shaq being healthy.

Thought this was an incredibly petty move by those guys. They should have extended an invite to Ray, regardless if he chose to come or not. Easy to trash on a guy for 10 mins when he's not there to defend himself.

Without Ray, KG and Pierce have no rings.

It's time to move on.

You can't write the 2008 season without Ray Ray.  So get together all you want but don t call it a championship reunion tour. Time for these guys to get over it.

I hate statements like this. This is people acting high and mighty. People have feelings, and people do wrong things to other people. It is esp hard to forgive if said person doesn't even feel he was wrong (and he was, you cannot defend why he cant even give PP or KG a heads up. He was hiding from them FFS)

Yeah i don't get it either....

If the city of Boston wants to honor the 2008 NBA Champions and 'forgets' to invite RA then ok ... this is an issue

But it is not some kind of official event. A group of guys want to celebrate and they don't feel like having RA around .... What is the problem ?

I listened closely and didn't think they trashed Ray at all. They explained  why they were upset and how they felt. They also left the door open, if Ray decides to initiate something.
I think they have every right to feel how they feel- it's their relationship.
I find people obtuse when they look at this particular situation. As far as I'm concerned, KG, Pierce, Rondo, Perk and Baby can feel however they want.

The issue was less about Ray leaving, and more about his lack of consideration for the relationship he had with them.

I thought it took some courage to be honest and forthcoming about why they felt the way they did.

Loved the whole show. Also, I found it interesting about how the players felt about, Posey, House not being resigned and  then later Perk being traded.

I love those guys (mostly) as Celtics and I place Garnett at #4 in terms of most important/greatest Celtics of all time along with Russell, Cowens and Bird because I look at the backbone players of each championship group.

I also love Perk and will never get over Ainge letting him go because the guy was all Celtic and because I still think we win the title in 2011 if we keep him.

Having said all that - and I'll get blasted for this I'm sure - but is it too much trouble to sit up straight, tuck your shirt in, tie your shoes and speak clearly ? I know it is all about being cool, but being cool is part of the problem in our society. It has become more important than having character and integrity. Young kids do not see the work ethic these guys have or, necessarily, their character. They see the jewelry and the slouch and the mumbled language as being something to aspire to.

Yeah, I know. "Get off my Lawn."

I sometimes judge books by their covers too. On the occasions that I've witnessed deeper evidence of my judgments, I've been right much of the time.  But I've also been wrong.  I consider this one of the biggest flaws in my own character .

One night in the early 80s I went to a club in Boston. There was a kid in a chair in a back room people were gathered around.  He had scraggly hair that looked uncombed, unwashed and too long. He had a wispy bumpkin-looking mustache.  He was slouched in his chair and had a cigarette dangling from his mouth. When he spoke it was hard to understand his slow drawl. He was significantly underdressed. But I waited patiently to shake his hand because he was Larry Bird.

Sorry for the sanctimony.

In my opinion they ruined any chance, or made it that much harder

If you think they didn't call out Ray , just Rondo's punk quietness did it in.

Big baby saying , ring hopper.....

Garnett was actually the only one that kept it level..

Paul Pierce comparing it to a 10 year girlfriend lol, Pierce had to be high.

They purposefully went on national TV to do it. It wasn't a quiet bbq in KGs backyard. It seems petty.

I agree that the way they discussed the issue on TV was 'unfortunate'.... But not liking him and excluding him is imho 100% their business
